Sad Day

Well i took my car to edgewater today.. but i forgot i was only 17 so my cusin had to drive it. He could only run a 16.4 in it but it was his first time driving my car and he weighs 350 compared to my 170. I thought i would be at least in the 15.9's with the gear and exhaust..

16.4 at 84mph <- horrible
2.4 60's = horrible
1/8 10.5... :-(

My girl was with me too.. and she noticed a cavalier running a 15.9... i was so ashamed

With less weight with you and your exerience maybe you could pull it off.

I may have just the fix for this.

Timing= Bump to 4* BTDC
Fuel= Make sure that you are getting 12-13 PSI under load
Tune= When was the last complete tune-up
Shift= Manually shift it at about 4,700 (usually around 5,100 on a stock tach)
Flow= Get some 1.6:1 roller rockers
EX= Exhaust does very little on a L03, unless you go from the head ports back. Headers, Y-pipe, cat, etc. I like stuff built for a L98.
INT= Open element and ultimate TBI mods. A 1" open center spacer will help alot if you have room under the hood with it. I recomeend a flat/drop based open element air cleaner with a 1" open center TBI spacer. (Dropped me from low 90ish KPA to 98-100 KPA @ WOT over 3,000 RPM with my 350)
Launch=Hold the rpms up around 1,100-1,300 against the brake and roll onto it. Its all to easy to make a smoke show with a L03.

Fast355, I have been meaning to catch you for awhile...

I recently tried to datalog my car with my friend's cable, he has an OBD1 cable for his LT1...I used that and it fit snuggly over my ECM, it connected and everything was fine.

However the program I used WinALDL, did not read anything from my car, the computer was on, the car was on.

Do I have to get a cable specially made for my ECM? Dumb question I know

That cable works with GMs 8192 baud rate ECMs. You have a 160 Baud ECM. Long story short the cables are different, the circuits are different, and even the Serial Data output on the ALDL is in a different spot.

new tires, base timing, and my experience driving i think i can pull off a 15.9. At least both tires were spinning at the track lol. I can order a PROM-inator any time i want which will be very soon!

My tires are well over 7 years old and bald! lol

Mitch did'nt you put in some 3.42's awhile ago?Was it a posi or still open diff?
Get an aluminum driveshaft with some aluminum drums to free up some rotational weight.that will help even more.

eh, don't worry about the times, your not driving the car, I'm impressed that your cousin that's 350#'s can just jump into the thing and make a 16.4 pass.

I'm sure your driving alone(sounds like he blew the launches) you'd be in the 15's for sure.

Edgewater is always hot, greasy and slow. I wouldn't harp on it too much. Fast355's guidelines are a great starting point. I would run your car at tri-state and see if there is an improvement. On a cool night with good track prep you should see mid 15's. My '03 Cobra, buds '05 GTO and other buds '05STI were painfully slow at edgewater.

aye, I suspected as much. Well, I still haven't heard from the cable making guy yet, so I am stumped as to what to do.

anyway M1tch, I have read some of your past posts about how you beat a Dodge Dakota R/T 5.9 liters I believe from a roll, and I also read on how you took a Taurus SHO.

It is apparent to me that your car has potential, your cousin may have blown the launch, or your cousin just wasn't able to drive the car as well as you. It could be alot of things, but I wouldn't beat yourself up about it.

Its not out of the ordinary for a stock LO3 to run a 16.4, people automatically assume that just because one LO3 can run a....let's say a 15.4 in the 1/4 they think that theirs can do the same, and although its almost the same way, it really goes different ways. It depends on the state of tune your car is in, how well you can drive it, where you live, the kind of weather outside, etc. etc. etc.

Get her tuned up slap on an exhaust cutout, do what Fast355 said and you'll pretty much be a mid 15 second car.

any engine, has to have a range of what they run in the 1/4 mile, and for the LO3 that can be anywhere from a 15.3-16.9
