Weak or overheating fuel pump? Can you test your idle vs WOT pressure? Just a thought.

What is happening is the ECM is doing a forced knock test. The ECM will run this test once the engine is up to temperature and the driver mashes the go-pedal. To force knock the ECM adds a lot of timing.

If no knock is seen the first time, the ECM will try it again with even more timing. If this test also fails then the ECM sets code 43 and pulls a bunch of timing out. This timing stays out until the ECM gets a key-off/key-on cycle.

So, in order to fix this issue you need to figure out why the ECM can't get the engine to knock. Or, if the engine does knock, why the ECM is not alerted to that fact.

In your case it sounds like (no pun intended) the engine doesn't knock. If this is the case, and you aren't hearing the engine knocking, then there is a reason for it.

Some items that will cause the engine to not knock: too high octane fuel, too cold intake, timing not set properly, too rich.

The idea is to get the engine to knock during the forced knock test. And the code 43 and loss of power will go away. The engine will have more power as during WOT the proper amount of SA will be added. This is not done until the forced knock test passes.

RBob.
