HELP: TBI Idling weird

Well I havent done anything great to my engine but I have put an open element air filter on it. My idle is real bad. It lobes really bad, if I let off the brake a little bit while stopped it jumps, the rpm is staying the same but it just a constant jumping on each rotation. I have replaced my EGR, Oxygen Sensor, Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor and nothing helps does the same thing. I have reset the computer but doesnt change. I have checked for vacuum leaks but didnt find anything, I have also cleaned the Throttle body and Idle Air Control Valve. It still runs the same going down the road, but the idle really sucks. I get no codes. Any body with any suggestions?????

What did you do with the IAT? Did you check it?

Dude, this sounds like your TBI gasket got sucked down your intake. Its definitly a vac leak. Look around the base of your TBI. Start the car and get a can of WD-40 and spray some at the base of the TBI. If the idle smooths out you've found your prob.

You can use this trick around the intake also.

The IAT : I drilled a hole in the new air cleaner and just put it in like it was in my other one. I unplugged it and the car ran no different and it gave me a code. Thanks I will try the WD 40 trick. I will repost as soon as I try that.

Well I sprayed WD 40 everywhere and nothing happened (I wished it would have) Is it worth replacing the TBI Gasket if it didnt make a difference with the WD 40. What else is there to try??

clean the IAC passage with carb cleaner, reset minimum idle, and reset TPS, see if that helps

Did the problem start when you put on the open element? or did it just start randomly and you just told us you have an open element as your only mod?

my suggestion would be to replace the iac, after examining if it works or not(see if its moving at all). You can always take it back.
Try reseting before removing and replacing.

Could also be intake manifold gasket leak into the lifter valley, but that'd be a heck of a coincidence...

Als otry plugging the EGR valve vacumn lines and the lines running from the solenoid and see if that clears the idle up. The solenoid could be screwed up allowing the EGR valve to stay open at idle which would give you a crappy idle. This is a quick test and should take no longer than a few minutes.

Well I changed the IAC cleaned the IAC passage real good and checked the TPS and it was giving the right voltage. Havent tried blocking off the EGR yet, ran out of time. Keep the ideas coming though.
THANKS

Umm check your timing and check to make sure that you put the wires back on in the right spots =)

Just one wire off will screw up the idle and drivability like that..
