Problem with my TBI.
Problem with my TBI.
Yesterday I had the TBI off because I was making a spacer and I put it on. However, when I drove it afterward it idled at over 2000. I thought that I must have stretched the cables. I didn't. There is play in the cables. Here the spring that returns the throttle to the regular position is weak and will not return it all of the way. I had a big problem with the fuel lines matching up and I do NOT want to take the TBI off AGAIN. (this makes time 4.)If I need a new spring, do I need to take the whole TBI off? If so it is going to a shop. I am tired of fooling with it. I would appreciate any input you guys can give me. Thanks.

You can change the spring without taking the TBI off. If you want to change just the passenger side spring (which might do enough for you) all you do is take off the TPS and unscrew the tab on the throttle shaft. The spring will slide right off. If you want to change the driver's side too you have to unscrew the throttle blades from the shaft(without letting them fall in the manifold - magnets help)and slide the shaft out.

it sounds to me like you have a vacuum leak if anything
its easy to know if the cables are causing the problem just disconnect the throttle cable and start it and see where it idles at

mine idles high in the morning. At around 1500. why? It takes a while to calm down.

Pablo,
Thanks for the reply but I am sure that it is the spring. With the hood open I had my buddy hit the gas and you can see the bores open up properly and when he lets off it idles high. I can then pull on the cable mechanism and it goes back into position. I disconnected the cables (not running of course) and you can move the throttle on the TBI like it is a piece of paper. When I let go it does not come back. I have to physicly move it back. Where can I get one of those springs? Advanced auto or do I have to go to a junk yard? Thanks guys.
