where do i get a bigger y-pipe?
where do i get a bigger y-pipe?
I am posting this for my brother, he has a 92 RS with a 305tbi. Bone stock with 80,000 miles. I am a Mustang guy myself(93 GT) and I don't even know why he wants to do stuff to this car. Tbi's are SO SLOW no matter waht you do to them. Anyways, I got him a Borla cat-back for Christmas, and I was wondering where I could get a biger y-pipe w/o a cat?? Thanks
SLP has Y pipes for $200. most headers have Y pipes with them for $350. or you could find a Z28 and snag the Y pipe and manifolds. (manifold are different so swapping only the Y pipes would probably need welding)

just about every header set on the market has a y pipe available for them, buying just a y pipe is a waste of time, TBI exhaust manifolds are pathetic, and your comments are no way to gain support on a board of TBI'ers

Thanks for the info. I wasn't tryin to gain the support of anyone. That was just my opinion. My mustang bone stock ran high 13's. Like I said this is for my brothers christmas gift so this will likely be my first and last post. But thanks for the info and sorry if I offended anyone. Do you guys have any suggestions on a brand of header to get??
SLPs were on sale. dunno if it expired yet. lost the link too.
I've helped my friend mod his 88GT from stock. man that H pipe was a bitch to get in. I used to beat him through first gear. Not anymore
We put on a Trick flow intake 2 months ago. He needs gears, TB, and bigger MAF now.

high 13s stock... you mean stock like muscle mustangs and fast fords defines stock right?
if emissions are no concern look in to the hedman headers and y pipe (without AIR)

I mean stock like k&n filter removed air silencer and 3:27 gears. I would consider $100 worth of performance pretty much bone stock.
I forgot to mention exhaust too.

he has exahaust, gears and modified air box. Thats not factory. A 3.27 gear wasnt even available for that year. Only a 2.73 came with the stangs of that year. So his gears are aftermarket or he is just B.S.ing again. Now correct me if i am wrong but a 5 spd 93 mustang GT could run a best of 14.7 maybe a 14.5. With his mods i doubt he is running 13s consistantly. This kid is really pissing me off.......
You guys need to get your facts straight. Mustangs were available with 2:73, 3:08, and 3:27 gears. If you would like I could send you a few links to back me up. And Mustangs basically stock easily run high 13's with slicks. Around here a K&N and exhaust are considered stock, but i have to remember that i'm talkin to tbi guys since that is about all you can do to your cars.

Hey 5.0guy, you have to realize that you werent ther brightest in the world for telling everybody that you are mustang guy when you come to a thirdgen board. Im sure youde give the same treatment to me if i were to come to your boards and say, im posting this for my brother who drives a 5.0. im a sbc350 guy myself. rustangs suck. Getting my point?
I cant block you from posting here. But I can delete any and every post of yours that even remotely comes close to degredating the members of this board. I enjoy your love for your brother and the fact that you are buying him such a nice gift. Dont underestimate a tbi.
L03, yes, you might be safe discounting them from beating a ford 5.0, but dont categorize the tbi as an engine, after all it is a fuel delivery system.

Listen, I don't care what any of you think of me. It's just my opinion that there are many much more efficient ways of making power than tbi. Tbi wasn't built with performance in mind or else GM would have put it in Z28's. Sorry if it offends anyone, but my brothers car is slow. He admits it and he owns the car. I am by far not a Chevy or Camaro hater. I own a 81 Z28 myself, and my parents cars are a 97 Blazer, 98 Silverado, 67 Chevelle SS396, 68 Camaro RS/SS, and a 63 Impala SS. I have the only ford in the family.
Whoever doesn't think my car was considered stock I'm sorry, but around here it is. Tas, where did you get that I had a bigger MAF?? The only things that were on my car that wasn't on there from the factory was a K&N, the plugs and wires and the exhaust. Do you cout a new tach as a "mod" also?? The slicks are just for traction. I can't post my timeslip because the pic is too big, but just click the link to see it. This is my best time with just that stuff done when I was up in Michigan. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1363733&a=10166402&p=34672463&Sequence=0&res=high
To the couple of you who answered my question I thank you. The ironic thing is that a post made by a Mustnag owner has spent 3 days at the top of a Camaro forum, and will prob. be there more. My brother will back my times up if you ask him. He may post some questions as he just got the car. He's only 15 so take it easy on him and please don't take your harshness for me out on him. His name is Jeff's92RS. Thanks.

i wasnt being harsh, just saying welcome to you to the boards and just making sure you knew the rules here. Trust us, we all know, first hand, that tbi wasnt designed originally to produce staggering hp numbers. It is however what we have, and we do what we can with what we got. I used to own an 87 thunderbird tc. It was a fun car and in stock form beat the 87 vette in the quarter mile
. I by no means hate stangs or fords. in fact someday i hope to own both my camaro and an 88 tbird tc or svo. Watch, that will probably get my moderator status revoked.
Its just my job to keep this board clean and efficient, without fighting. You are in an akward place, and will have to watch what you say because you will be under the microscope. So dont go bashing tbi, or anybody on here. I know you understand. So what did you decide on getting your bro. Or can you say since hes on here?
Hey, and to everybody else who is always here. Give the guy some slack, Dont be that guy, you know who im talking about. The guy who treats you that way on their boards.

Snflupigus, I decided to go with the Borla cat-back and slp headers and I'm gonna have a pipe made to delete the converter. How do you think that will sound and what kind of hp incease would be expected?? I'm almost done with all the stuff in the ultimate tbi article, and my parents are getting hime and elelbrock intake and cam tat i will be installing. Any tips?? I'm not very familiar with theese cars and how they react.

you will envy the sound his car is going to make. 305 or not, it will sound sweet, check out the sound bytes on the front page.
hp im told from adding headers in something like 20-30, deleting the cat and adding borla will probably put him up another 10+. Ultimate tbi will help out with inhaling the air the car will now be able to exhale. maybe 25-30? from intake, ultimate tbi matched with the cam. Total hp increase of about 50-70 hp depending on cam. Thats my guess, im not a master by any ratings however. All he will need now is heads, and he will have reached potential on a 305. Also only thing he might not be able to swap to an 350 in the future would be the cam. also, better start thinking about computer chip reprogramming too.

Damn I would of rather been thrown to the sharks, all though he provoked it he did have a legit question. About the stuff your doing to your bros car, you will definitely be in need of a custom prom and he should consider saving for some 58cc edelbrock alm. heads, because the stock heads will be the only restriction left other than that stock tb but a 670 is easy to get. I wish my older bro bought me stuff like that and worked on my car I usually end up working on his car(383 87 GTA). When your done he will have a nice car, we'll treat him ok.

uhhhh tbi was put on IROC Z's, Z28s, trans ams and formulas. so there goes that theory

BTW the pic of that motor that supposed to be in ur car doesnt look all that stock. Looks to me like u have after market heads, roller rockers and the trick flow logo on ur intake wasnt all that hard to spot........troll

ONEFINE8T9, thanks for your smart comment. Was the tpi not an option over the tbi in IROC's? Those were made for people who wanted the look of an IROC without the performance of a Z28. As far as the motor, if you look at the timeslip, that was in August. The motor was put in just last month. If you would read carefully you would know that I didn't have it in there when i was running 13's. The current motor runs low 11's on a small shot of nos.

Hey, ONEFINE8T9. Back off will ya. Hes not causing trouble, so neither should you. You read his posts wrong.
And just a question? Are you arguing that tbi was designed with performance as a priority?

look 5.0 guy i never had nothing against u to begin with. Infact i like to help someone out be it with a mustang or an f body its just that u came on one of our boards talking $h!t about our cars. I mean as hard as it is to believe some people preffer TBI over TPI. TBI is very easy to work on and u get alot of miles out of it. It seems to last longer than TPI but thats only an opinion. Man lets just 4get about this, i dont care n e more and its stupid to argue about nothing.
And just a question? Are you arguing that tbi was designed with performance as a priority?
no i am not but i think if GM wanted to put a motor in a car desinged for everyday driving they would have put a 2.8 in a IROC and not a 5.0TBI.
