SLP Cam

I about to purchase a cam for my 89 RS L03. I am thinking about running a set of #041 69' 300hp 350 heads (basically the same as camel humps). They are 64cc now, but I'm planning on cutting them to around 56cc and cutting an Edelbrock intake to match. The cam I have in mind is an SLP hydraulic roller, part# SLP51002. Its .480/.487 lift, 206/212 dur @ .050. Has anyone used this cam, and how will it work. I know how to make a carbed engine run, but I hear horror stories of people putting too big of a cam with F/I and having serious problems. The car has Hedman shortys, MSD coil, removed cat,Dynomax exhaust, 'Vette servo , and 3.42's. The heads are 1.94/1.50 and I will be running Comp roller rockers. I think this will be pretty quick combo, just not sure about which cam to run. Suggestions??

That cam is pretty mild and with those heads it should be a pretty stout setup seeing as how the heads make the car.. the chip side i dont think would be real hard

now one thing i dont knwo about is the valve lift and the size of that intake valve i thoguht i heard something about 305s and 1.94 intake valves not working past .460 due to shrouding? not sure

I think the shrouding problem you are referring to is true when you actually install 1.94's in 305 heads. That was my original plan, but a friend of mine had a set of ported #416's w/ 1.94/1.50's on his 305, but the engine ran hot,and cracked one of the heads. He replaced the heads with a set of #186's (dimemsionally the same as an #041) unported, that were cut to 58cc. The car picked up 2 tenths and pulled about 500-600 rpm higher than previously. So this why I chose these heads. About the chip, I have a Hypertech Street Master, will this run ok? I know the custom chips are better, but will the car run and idle well with this chip until I upgrade to a custom one later? Lastly, I have a TB from a '90 454 truck, will this work ok, or will it be too much?? Thanks in advance.

yeah it will run an idle, like i said the cam is pretty mild

I ran my car with the stock chip for quite some time actually and it has a much larger cam

the 454 TB will work, just use your 305 injectors in there in the mean time

when you get into the chip side youll either have increase pressure a bit or get bigger injectors
