really simple open air mod thoughts

If you get a 14x4 open air element and the air filter stud for a 305TBI truck, could you not just dropthe 4 inch tall element into your stock airbox, drop your stock cover on top and secure it with a wingnut???

it would look like this
____/----------\____ < stock housing lid
|| || <1"gap for more air
| || <filter> || |
|__||__________||__| <stock <housing

Theoretically, yes. However, when you go to close your hood you might run into a problem, unless youve got a cowl hood. My car has a 14x3 non drop aircleaner and the hood insulation is chafed up in relation to where the wingnut is on my aircleaner. Thats how tight of a fit it is. So, as long as you can stuff it under the hood your in good shape.
