would i gain more power at the track with a summit exhaust cutout?
if u have a full exahaust the increase would be so minimal it wouldnt even be worth it. Im tellin u go with a higher stall converter. That would be the best bang for the buck.

On my 89 RS, I went to the track one weekend and ran in the 15.10's all night. The very next week I put on a cut-out and went 14.91. The weather conditions were actually a LITTLE better the first week also. I only have 2.5" exhaust with a Dynomax Super Turbo, which is not the best flowing exhaust system, so ONEFINE8T9 might be right, meaning if you have a good 3" exhaust system, you may not see that much gain, but it got me almost 2 tenths, so for me,it was well worth it( especially considering I already had the cut-out)

just for the record people, Basset's times don't count. He's running an LB9 longblock, with the better cam and heads.

MrJ, After doing some pretty extensive research, I have concluded that my 305 IS essentially a L03.The L03 heads are #14102187, but my heads are #10159553, which GM says is a swirl-port design head. The parts guy at the GM dealer where the engine was changed looked up the records on when the engine was ordered, and repaced 2 years ago and it was ordered to be a L03 replacement. He says the heads (#10159553) are probably a replacement part #, but he could not confirm that, he did however, find some information saying they were a swirl-port head w/ 1.84int, 1.50exh, and 58cc chambers. So with this in mind, I put a dial indicator on the rockers and confirmed that the cam was the peanut cam. But it IS NOT a Lb9. By all practical purposes it is, or at least should be the equivelent to a L03. Swirl-port heads and the peanut cam, both of which I have, are what makes the L03 different than a LB9. I mean, I don't think my car is really much faster than other similarly modded L03's anyway, because I see people saying they have to "roll-out and nail it" , or "feather the throttle until it hooks up" which means they are on street tires and spinning, I'm not, I'm on ET Streets with a lot more than recomended air pressure with almost zero wheelspin. I also run no air filter, higher timing with about a 70-30 mix of pump gas and 110 octane at the track and I put about 50# of pressure in my front tires and like I said in my previous post, I run it with uncapped exhaust. Plus I know how to drag race, I've been doing it a long time - I mean I'm not bragging, but a lot of my friends cars' best times, especially 5 speed cars, have been with me at the wheel. All these little things help, and some of these are things the average street racer at the dragstrip just dosen't do or doesn't KNOW to do. I'd like to hear some other guys with L03's doing some of these things, I think you'd see a noticable improvement.
Mostafa3k,
I don't run a cat, but I'd say for sure to run it before the cat. I run my right off the y-pipe where it bends, right before where the front of the cat used to mount. It probably restricts the exhaust a little bit, when I have the block-off plate on, due to it being mounted in the bend, but it ran faster at the track with it open, and I could tell no loss in performance on the street (capped)when I welded it on, so I really think it is a good mod.
