Order of buildup
What in you guys opinion would be the first 5 or six things to be done to the TBI L03 motor to increase power while remaining streetable??? Just curious what others have done... In order,
I did Accel cap rotor and wires
free flowing muffler
Cold air intake
Bumped timing
AC delete
This week will do Edelbrock TES, and 3 inch all the way back...
Where would you guys go next just motor wise???? Thanks for any answers...Tom

Learn to program chips - 'cause there isn't much else can be done without custom chips. For seat of the pants, you could get better rear end gears - but anything much else motor related means programming chips (unless you switch to carb).

Yes, I think you are right...I have never realized the importance of a chip burn.....So tell me, if nothing else is done right now, except the full Exhaust, what will a chip reprogram do for me?? I mean what is the best case senario HP, and TQ wise.....Will it even do anything for you if you dont have "real" engine mods??? (Cam, heads, Intake, etc) Thanks again.Tom

beatercoprice, yes, that is a good idea..I will for sure have more "Cubes" in the future.......Most of the little things I have done will head to the bigger motor..Thanks..

First consideration: Do you have to maintain emissions in your area?
Answering that answers alot. And if there is more motor in the future plan, there really isn't much more that I'd waste my time on at the moment.
The TES headers I'd skip - they are expensive, won't net you much. Your 305 problems lie in the heads and intake and cam, which can't be changed without chips. For me the chip burning was too much to try and learn - I'm old school, like getting my hands dirty, not my keyboard.
I've done it all (besides the chip burn) on my 1990 305 and I got nowhere. My 1992 got a modded 350, yanked all the computer crap out and went carbed - now I have some fun with it! Sad part is, I spent the same amount on both cars - the 1990 just runs, the 1992 hauls.
The TBI guys will tell ya all the wonderful things you can do with a 305 - and that's great for those that want to experiment to see what they can accomplish, and I praise them for it. But for me, I didn't want a project ongoing forever, and I didn't want to experiment for the sake - I wanted to enjoy driving my fbody - it's a beautiful car, and I wanted to have fun. Thus I ditched the computer, went carbed and old school, and now it's what it should have been from the factory - fun.
If you can get out from under the emissions inspection, going carb is so easy, and only requires a few tools to tune - no learning curve as the chip has.

Camaronewbie..Yes we do have emmisions testing her, but for the last couple of years, I have kinda picked up stickers.Well, I got the TES headers for 50 bucks, with the y pipe, and 3 inch cat they are going on for sure..Used a set on last Camaro with a 350 in it, and they worked well....I was scared on my last one, and got rid of all the computer stuff, went carbed..LOVED IT...This time tho I kinda like my TBI, and I think I want to learn how to burn the chips...I have read alot of the stickies, but I am still a little lost...I too, am old school being in my late late 40's..I used to race semi pro back in the 80's, so ive been around cars for awhile this is my 5th or 6th thidgen...Thanks alot for the reply

Ummm... seen several of his posts -- beatercoprice speak wise words.
I too am old school, but decided to stick w/ the tbi & control system
on the Formula build-up. Learn new things, keep brain cells firing.
, the EBL unit from RBOB sounds like a steal, and the way to go
for getting into tuning. I don't have one yet, but it's definitely part
of the plan. RBOB has an execellent reputation for competence, and
advice w/ problems. Do this next, then some actual TBI mods. (My
plan is for an XtremeFI unit. I'm willing to do procurement & assembly,
but not grinding/fabrication.)
I'm just up the road in League City, so we should meet up -- maybe
the cruise-in at Chick-Fil-A on sat's when weather warms back up.
I'm interested in more about your inspection sticker situation.

To summarize:
RBOB is Mr. Rauscher's TGO moniker -- for search purposes, PM etc.
EBL is the product he offers -- check out his web-site.
Some guys get carried away listening to themselves
,
but that's what makes this board as entertaining as enlightening.
If you really want to get a handle on RBOB, lurk around the TBI forum.
Next time I'm out for errands during lunch, I'll swing by.

I liked all of them -- most entertaining brain fart
I've heard in a long time. Would have liked them
better in a single post -- easier on the scroll finger
for an old codger such as myself. And I shudder
to think what you could do if you really put your
mind to it.
