I wish I had my old one for my 94. I lost it in the move, along with my cat. Don't really miss the cat.

YES!! Old weak valves springs can make a great cam perform poorly. You can get K-Motion part# K-700 in Summit or Jegs for $42.95. They hold up .500" lift, have 115# seat pressure and are perfect for the LT1 cam. They are stock diameter, and install height.$43.00 is a cheap for insurance, don't risk dropping a valve, and killing your whole engine, when for so little $$$, You'll have agood spring that later on, if you wished you could run 1.6's on. Well Worth it.

If I ran 1.6 rockers, wouldn't I have to get taller valve covers or not?

I've got Crane Gold Race 1.6 ratio roller rockers on my car with the stock valve covers. I haven't had any clearance problems at all (with the stock cam). I really don't think that an LT1 cam is so big that it would cause clearance problems...The stock covers should be fine.

Most people in the east and midwest have low mile cars in good condition(garged winters) so a $50 cam swap is great for them. Someone offered me an LT1 cam 6 months ago before it was "in", but I decded against putting it in my 150k+ mile engine.

I'm sorry if I got anyone mad, I wasn't trying to. All I'm asking is, is it really worth the money, time and effort? Sure you got $25 for the camshaft. Don't forget everything else you're going to need. You have to replace the gaskets that you remove, unless you like leaks, most of you have high milage engines so it's about time to replace the timing chain, mabye the sprocktes if their worn, your springs could give you troule from the bigger cam on an older engine; they wern't the greatest of springs either, don't forget to get that chip changed because you won't get much without that, what else am I forgetting...
Not so cheap now is it? Now, if you have a low milage engine, I can see it being worth it, but if you have over 100,000 miles, the I suggest you start saving up for a new engine. I have a 305 in my car now since the 327 blew, and I'm going to do little things to it just to make it run better and at least keep up with the local Stangs, but I'm setting that as my limit, this engine has over 100,000 miles, so the rings are getting sloppy and it's going to need a valve job done if I want it to last until I can afford to drop the new engine in.

If you still want to do the cam swap and have the cash, then I'm not stopping you, I'm only trying to give some advice. If you do it, then post how well it does, I'm interested in how far you can really go with a 305!

i just wana blow mine up. so i have to buy a bigger engine. course, thats not the smartest route, but, hey. i figure im gona blow an engine someday. might as well be this one. I will either have to take out a loan soon to buy a new car, because im not too nice to mine. engine wise. it hits redline quite a bit. so i figure, its not gonig to last much longer anyway. 25 bucks. o no. 100 bucks maybe gettin high. but ive spent more money on worse things. and got less out of them. (ex-girlfriends )

hell, actually, if i blew up the engine in the camaro, i would just go to the auction and get a truck for a while. since i live in antartica. ok. Nebraska. i need a second vehicle, other wise this one is just gona keep going down the tubes.

anyway... i just want a new cam, and i dont care if i have to take the whole engine apart. as long as i can have it back together in a day.

later. besides i gotta yank my emissions and change the manifold. and probably yank the ac. since its shot. i might as well just drop the water pump and put on some valve covers, take out the radiator for a good flush. change the original timing chain out..... i need a tuneup. cat off........ ya. i guess ill need more than a day. hahaha

I like leaks Duke.

No, but NJ found some great springs for 48 bucks that perform great he said. And as for the timing chain. Well it needs to be replaced anyways since I am at 105,000 miles. But honstly, I really don't plan on doing anything expensive to this engine anymore. I do plan on doing expensive things to the body like those GTA (black) 16x8 rims I am getting in April and KYB Shocks/Struts, maybe some LCA's but thats it. I am done fooling with the engine. Soon as I can figure out whats got it spooked I am doing the cam thing and then I am through even touching it. I agree. Some people aren't looking to go low 12's though in their cars and I think thats why they like modding their 305's. Me, well you know me, low 12's are a must for me so I will be saving for a 350 VERY soon. But before I do, I just want to time my car and see how I did. Knocking off 2 seconds would be great for me. So I understand where your coming from on spending money on the 305.

I think ive said this before. I would get into way to much trouble if i had a 350. or anything faster than 14.0 so i will stick with the 305. when i turn 25 baby, im gona get me that big engine. But as for the lt1 cam. i guess im just playin. and i dont think there is anything wrong with that. ps, i still know a seller with one for 25$. email me and ill give you their email address.

Well, I just got a LT4 cam today, my boss that used to work on vettes had it. He only wanted $30 for it! I have to take the manifold off the 305 since it has a crack, so what the hell, I'm putting it in. I'm going to put a Torker 2 on with a 670 Holley TBI, hell, I have the old set of TPI heads my 327 had still, just back from the shop getting redone (they're good heads, I don't want them to go to waste), so so while I'm this far I might as well put them on the 305! I can get all my gaskets for free so why not? I needed something to do Tuesday. I'm sure the bottom end is going to go soon, oh well, the 427 runs and if the 305 dies I'll drop the 427 in. I'll have pics for ya all soon!
