Hey Guys
I decided not to buy that LT1 cam. Duke was right in a way. I talked to a friend at the Detroit Speed Shop and I talked to Josh and they all said the same thing. If I am going to get into 12's on the block I am going to have to buy a 350. So buying all this stuff for my 305 is kinda of a waste (stuff that isn't swappable or that I won't want on my new 350) and I don't want a LT1 cam with my High Performance 350 that I want so its back up for sale. $25.00 and the guys e-mail is listed below. Thanks for e-mailing me though first Nic. I appreciate it.

we'll see if you really need a 350 to go 12's.
i am gonna try to do it and it seems like the LT1 cam is gonna be the right way to go. that cam would be comparitively small if it was put into a 350 though.
i think scoggins dickey still has some of the zz4 take outs left though. that with some 1.6's would be a gret cam to run twelves on.

How are u suppose to run 12's with just a cam swap? I can see doing a power adder with ur 305 to get into 12's. Is that what ur going to do?

eric eric eric, must i honestly explain how to run 12s on a 305??? Its like saying that a 4 cly cant run 13s consistantly........go tell that to the eclipse owners who do it everyday. N E one who says u cant run a 12 second pass on a 305 out right lied to u. I mean if u preffer to run a 350 thats ur thing but if u dont think its easily possible to do it on a 305 than ur wrong. BTW if u do it u would be "one of the few". everyone has that mind set that "there is no replacement for displacement" and thats not always the way to go. We can get into more technical stuff tomorrow. I cant even begin to tell u how bad of a night it was......

Sure man, show me how to get a 305 TBI into low 12's. And don't just name off, well do this and do this, I mean facts. I want to see a car with a time slip that is a 305 TBI that runs 12's. I know there is a guy that runs 12's with a 305 TPI on here but um, oh yeah, his 305 is supercharged. Show me how to get the block of a 305 into low 12's without a power adder.
BTW: Where is this 4 banger that runs 13's off his block consitently? I would like to see that. Guarentee he isn't running on the block. Look at all the stuff NJ has done to his 305 TBI. He is running 14.3 and is probably gonna run mid-high 13's with that cam swap. Where is he gonna get another 1.5 seconds to get into low 12's from? A power adder is what he will get it from.

Why I Think I Can Go 12's With "Just a Cam Swap"
i am presently running 14.3's@94.xx mph. this is in a car that weighs 3375lbs. over the winter i have been removing weight as quickly as possible. i figure to come out at the begining of the season somewhere in the 3150-3200lbs range. if the theory that 100 lbs= 1 tenth is at all true that will put me at about a 14.05.
also anyone who klnows me has heard me agonize on\ver the knowledge that i have the wrong gears and a completely mis-matched torque converter along with a dying tranny. the correct converter(about a 2600 stall), the right gears(3.73's) and a tranny that doesn't do a big ol' cadillac slide into 2nd and 3rd should be worth another 3 to 4 tenths. putting me in the 13.75 range.
my car also had a completely wrong tune up in it last year. the plugs where too cold, the fuel pressure was too high(i just made an adjustable regulator to put on last night actually), and there is no custom tuning in the car at all( an 7 year old, off the shelf hypertech thermo master chip ain't exactly ideal for my car). the tune up and right fuel pressure is prolly another tenth or so. so say the car is around 13.6 now.
with a cam that is designed to spin past 4k rpm and some custom tuning i can surely pick up at least another 50hp at the wheels. figur that is worth about 4.5 more mph which is more than enough to knock another 6 tenths off of anyones et.
all i should hafta do is hook the thing off the line and i should be able to run the number. that is being taken care of this week with new shocks and springs.
i hope this all makes sense to everyone. it better make sense to me because i am pinning my hopes for a 12 second 305 on it.

very well put NJSPEEDER. I would have jsut said to mod the motor up a little and use a power adder. i Would pull the block. punch it 30 over. Get forged internals with a beefed up cam. Get heads that are ported polished with 3 maybe 5 angle valve job. Get a set of headers (which u already have) a good intake and a good Throttle body. Get a good stall converter with a full posi rear end. I personally would have went with 4.10s in an auto with full posi but 3.42 would do fine. Than get a shot of nos or a mild 9 psi supercharger. If that isnt a formula for atleast 12 (MIN) Than i dont know what is.
i looked into 4:10 gears, but when i put them next to the 3.73's on teh gear calculator that used to be on f-body.org i found that the 3.73's would put me closer to the peak hp of the motor when i come through the traps. with 4:10's i could only pull like 104mph@6000 rpm in 3rd gear.
i have heads and i am doing another tb as soon as i can get one that will be even better flowing.
and i am keeping the stock 101k bottom end until it blows up. if i rebuild or build an engine it is gonna be capable of 11.0's on pump gas, not barely into the 12's

Boring the engine over wouldn't make it a 305 anymore.
Anyways, good luck NJ. Hope to see some 12's without a power adder with a 305. That would be pretty rare. Myself, I am going to get into low 12's easier and have room left over for more.

NJSPEEDER ur right, it is very capable to run 12 or 11 second passes on a 305 as we both know. Ill look foward to hearing more about ur 12 second goal
eric i know that a .30 over bore isnt a 305 n e more. didnt we go over this already?? The point is its still a 305 block that some people really like to underestimate.
ok people we should drop this topic now, its kind of a waste now.Now the topic is more like "how to get a 12 second pass out of a 305" and its really not even worth talking about.
