I had Richmond's Tim and they whined like up to 45mph and then would cut out. Got annoying at first but kinda got used to it after awhile. But ever since I switched to GM Motive gears they never whine. Installtion for me was 170.00 including parts.

Last fall I bought a take off posi from SLP for $99 and a set of Motive gears(3.42) for $149 from National Drivetrain. Installed them myself, but I wouldnt recommend the average pearson try it.I am a machinist and have the tools to measure gear lash etc.Its my understanding that Motive Gear is a OEM suplier for GM. They installed nice and dont whine at all.I have a 700r4 and I like the 3.42s just fine.Good luck with your gears.

i have richmond 3.73s in my firebird and they arent loud really at all. It acctually sounds realy cool at low speeds and when u down shift and when ur doing like 65 u hear a light whine or howl but nothin bad at all. I thought it would have been louder.

BTW richmonds are a stronger gear than GM motive.

Those are the gears I bought. They are Motive Gear sets packaged for National Drivetrain.I'm happy with mine. Some people say they are not as strong as Richmond gears, but since I have a mildly modded L03 with street tires its not even an issue. If you are going to end up with a high(350+)HP motor, and be running slicks,or street slicks, you might need to change the whole rear end assembly. If your just tring to have fun on the street like I am, more expensive gears might be a waste of money.Good luck.
