This spring I am doing the same thing...Auburn Pro Series differential and Richmond 3.73s. I wrote Auburn and the part number I needed...here is what they responded with...

Good morning Brian,

As long as you are staying with the 7 5/8 rearend 28 spline, all you need to change is the ring & pinion set and the differential. As far as what we supply, it is only the limited-slip differential. My suggestion is to go with our Pro Series, it is a higher biased unit and should work well for you. For the 3.73 ratio, you will need our part number 542046. We do not sell direct, only through distributors, they are listed by state on our web page. Hope this helps. Thanks for the inquiry, good luck with your rebuild.
the only thing is that i dont know if in 89 they had the 26 or 28 spline axles. The year they switched to the newer 28 spline axles was right around 89. If you do have them then this is the part you need if you want the Pro Series.

Here is Auburn's Email address if you wanna check it out with them...

hmm thanks i emailed them.. the part # for my first post is 542057

but i found at jegs that it appears that part # is for 73-88 cars... according to jegs, the correct part # would be 542040 for the carrier 3, and 542041 for the carrier 2.

That pro series one also is listed at gm but its 400 bux.
109-542046 PRO GM 7-5/8 88-UP 3.23+ $ 395.99

ya, u can get these units from SLP engineering .com. They are the take off versions from the new trans ams and camaros. They work excellent from what i have heard. I mean they must work pretty damn good if pontiac is installing them in the ram airs.

I always get the Auburn unit and the "Torsen?" mixed up.

How does the Auburn unit stack up to the SLP one?
