how much oil do you guys use?
how much oil do you use when you do an oil change? i normally would not ask this qeustion, but my oil pressure gets so low and i have 6 quarts in it now. i am not leaking oil, yet my pressure drops low. any help?
i run with 5 quarts in my car. is the pressure dropping at idle or is it staying low? when the car is warm it's not unusual for the pressure to drop fairly close to the red line that marks low, but it should bounce right up as soon as you touch the gas. if it stays low then either the pump is going or you are starting to lose a bearing in the bottom end prolly.

The amount of oil you have in your car really doesn't matter when it comes to oil pressure. As long as you have oil covering teh sump. I could have 4 quarts in my car and still have great oil pressure. Leaks also don't matter because the oil is only being pumped around the bearings in the motor.
Frequently the oil pressure sending unit in our cars goes wacky and might be giving you a bad reading. Change that first and if that doesn't do it you probrably have worn down bearings. As long as you get 10 psi for each 1000 rpms that the engine is running you're fine. Also I would NOT run with more than the recomended amount of oil in the car. If your bearings are going you can also run a thicker viscocity oil which would definitely help.
