383 TBI Buildup

I was scanning through my newest HotRod magazine and in the pit stop section(Page 122, April 2001) they show some ideas on a build up of a 383 tbi. Sounds like a nice project, anoyone done it? What kind of power would it make?

Soon to be 350 TPI, aluminum heads, slp cam and some other goodies.

depends on how you build it, cam and heads are the most important variables in that equation as with any engine

I built a very streetable 385ci (40over)I used a costom comp HR cam P# 12-00-8 Duration at.050 is 224 and lift is .533 1.6. 112 lobe seperation. Ported sportsman heads, keith black pistons 134s. Projection 4brl intake with 900cfm 4brl holly TBI($400) and custom chip.(4.10 gears) It should be in the 450hp range. You can make this setup look totaly stock under hood! I also use my ram air kit with the factory snorkle air cleaner! 11.90s to 12.20s should be no problem for ya with slicks and high stall converter (I use GER 10inch nonlockup 3500) I still get a decent 15 mpg on the high way. Maybe this will work for ya it did for me!

I think 15mpg is plenty streetable. My stock, 305 gets a best of 23mpg on the highway, so I could give up 8mpg to gain a couple hundred horsepower.
