Almost Sounds Supercharged

I have a '92 Firebird with the 305 TBI, and when I accelerate my car make a loud whine
even when in park and revving it up, I havent done any mods to the TBI or the aircleaner is this normal. It was cool at first but now its getting annoying I just got my Flowmaster installed yesterday and when I get on it you can hardly here the exhaust just that loud whine, Sounded cool at first, almost made some people think it was supercharged, Do you guys have any idea what this is and how to get rid of it I would really like to enjoy the sound of my bad sounding exhaust. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Brooks

first you have to find where the sound is coming from exactly.

Alternator, timing gears, power steering. If the whining increases w/ the revs, it's prolly one of these or a similar rotating part

Mine did that, but it wasn't that loud. I could hear my quiet exhaust over it. It was a low whine like a supercharger, but you could not hear it outside the vehicle. I have an open element now and it hasn't done it since. It must have been the valve in the snorkle. It only did it sometimes.

You must have gotten the 10 second quarter mile alternator like I did. My alternator makes that very same whine, at about 2400 rpm you'd swear I had a blower under the hood. My latest alternator has done that from day one, so I'm not to worried about it.

Be careful that the whine you hear is not your alternator "working" very hard to overcome some sort of short or an unusually heavy electrical load whic should not be there under normal driving...
