Ultimate TBI mod nightmare!

Get this.
I was going through my TBI finally, doing the all the mods. Well I got the throttle body back together, and was beginning to put the fuel pressure regulator back to gether, now adjustable of course. I had epoxied a piece of square steel rod to the regulator screw to make it adjustable without taking the top off every time (with a access whole drilled through the base). As I am trying to fit the spring perch (with the TAB on it) back into the cup and onto the srew, I realized that I couldn't get the screw started into the threads. So thinking I could make it fit, I decided to bend that little tab down a bit so it would fit in the grove in the cup. NOPE, BAD IDEA. I should have realized that GM would make that little piece of crap out of pot metal. So it cracked, but i thought, hey I can get away with that (just a little crack) NOPE, it broke when I got it installed onto the car, so the dam thing would just spin when adjusted. To rectify the whole thing, I had to call summit and order the JET adjustable regulator. Don'e get me wrong, it's made well, but NOT worth $65. But, it was either that or no car.
Just a word of warning for anyone about to do that MOD. DO NOT BEND, TWEAK, FINAGLE, LOOK, OR BREATHE WRONG on that little tab. it will break. I prommise you.
Good look to all....
Andy
Oh, by the way, the car is runnig awsome now, I can't believe how lean it was running before.

Andy, had the same thing happen to me too. Fortunately I had a spare. The problem is that the slot that the tab slids in is not deep enough as you have stated. There is a simple easy solution to this problem. Take a small flat file and lengthen the slot towards the top of the regulator, then reassemble the regulater. This saves a lot of hassle and doesn't take long. Also you can fix the spring perch with a steel washer that you can solder a tab onto then use some model aircraft CE super glue. Glue that washer to the bottom of the spring retainer and then reassemble. the only thing with this method is you might not be able to turn the fuel pressur as low as you cuold before. You can pick it up at a hobbie shop or where they sale radio controled model airplanes. I know it's too late now but this might help others in the future.

Steve,
Thanks. I looked at it and your right. Imight fix it just to have a spare. If the one I bought breaks I will go nuts for sure. So hopefully I will have no need for it.
thanks again, good idea....

I purposely broke mine off so that i have to take the reg apart to adjust it. I also put tiny washers under the rotating adjuster so it doesn't 'back down' and lower the pressure. I mean, how many times do you have to take it apart? gasket is only $1.67. I think I have done it like 4 times total in 6 months. 11psi(OEM) to: 15psi, 16psi, 14psi, 15psi. yep, 4 times...

guess I just wanted to get it done NOW kinda thing. Oh, well. Works for me

Your right, I could have gone that way. The thing is I basically destroyed the cup (after I got pissed off that I was so stupid) so I didn't have much choice.
Oh well.
