Roots type blower with TBI?

I want a roots-type blower and was wondering if i can run TBI or if there are any aftermarket products for this kind of setup. I know it won't just bolt up, are there any adapters out there? I know i need a bigger TBI unit, if this is even possible. Any suggestions on manufacturers for these?

You could get one, but the problem is the heads an the camshaft still suck, you woudl want to replace those too.

Any suggestions on cam and heads for a combo like that, and what all would be involved in making the TBI fit? I would need bigger injectors right? where are they available for TBI applications?

What size roots blower are you looking at? A small 142/177, or a 6-71 or bigger? Single TBI? Dual TBI? 4bbl TBI?

These things need to be asked/answered.

For a blown TBI setup, I'd suggest the Holley Commander 950 ECU rather than trying to make a GMECM work. It'll handle anything you can push to it.

Heads? Depends on the blower - ported normal heads would probably suffice with a small blower, aftermarket ones wouldn't be a bad idea though, and would be a necessity (IMO) with a larger blower.

Cam? That depends on all of the above!

Just my thoughts... just needs to be more dialogue of what you want.

Ken

I was thinking a larger one like a 6-71 or bigger, with either a very large bore 2bbl or 4bbl.are there manifolds out there for this type of application or will i need to build/modify one? I have heard that doing dual tb's is a lot of money and you run into a lot of problems. Heads, i don't really know maybe 200cc? I dunno. I don't really know what to look for in a cam or heads for a supercharged application--kinda new to the whole power adder thing.
This will be awhile in the future- just deciding what to shoot for.
Thanks

There is actually a roots-type blower made especially for TBI. I believe that Weiand(Holley) makes it. It's pretty small though. It's one of those wussy low-profile blowers, meant to fit under a stock truck hood. Expensive for the horsepower gains, but compatible with TBI.

I've never seen a low profile roots blower(what does it use side draft carbs or something???). You can get the up to '86 carb emissions Weiand blower and put the holley TBI to carb adapeter on it. The up to '86 legal one will have EGR for emissions. I think its the 142cid but it might be 177cid. Most likey with any roots blower you will need a cowl hood or a shaker scoupe coming out of the hood to make it fit.

the one shane put on his car was low profile.. it just means its relatively short.. he coulda gotten away with a 2" cowl hood

as far as what a GMECM can handle. A GM ecm can handle more than a holley ecm when you know what you are doing.

There is a low profile roots blower, made for TBI, Tas. The part number is:77144BE. It's a standard 144 weiand blower, modified to work with TBI. Made for trucks from 88-95 with autos (fits under the stock hood), but I think a little engineuity would get it to work no problems on our cars.

hood clearance is not a problem, I'm planning for a 4 3/4in. or bigger cowl.

In Smokey and the Bandit almost all the cop cars had those scoupes turned backwards to be like the Trans Am shaker I guess.

Also makes everyone and thier mother want to race you. Just depends on what kind of attention your looking for.

Yeah, you can get a blower for tbi. The one for the trucks will work with a little modification (no personal experience)

Just take a step back and look at the whole car to determine what else you are going to add to improve the handle and traction problems associated with high hp and stock suspensions. I can't tell you how many cars with more horsepower I have beat to the next light. They pop thier hoods, nice vortech blowers, etc. But they made no changes to the stock suspension. Theres nothing like haveing 10 grand under the hood and a couple of guages to make you fly, lol. So by the time he hooks up, I'm waiting for him at the next light. Now, if the light was down the street a little more, it would be a different story. But most of my fun is had within the short distance of a city block, where traction wins.

So while your making plans for under the hood, don't forget to take a look at the whole car.

Just saw you had a 350 Tbi. So you prob know about traction loss by now,
Jerry
