1.6 ratio too much

Is 1.6 ratio too much for a pretty much stock tbi engine? My brother had some and I was bored one day and decided to put them on and my engine runs really rough at idle and runs rich and much more smoke comes out of my exhaust and there is not tapping coming from it. When I give it gas and it goes over 1500 rpm my engine becomes smoother. Do I have to adjust timing? do I have to adjust the fuel pressure? Are they not good on my engine? Just need some help thanks.

hummmmmm self aligning No, no there not I am pissed I asked people around me they said that the Chevy engines were not and that mine were not self aligning and they would fit and I kept telling that they would not fit instill they convinced me that they were. Sounds like its about to die at idle like a race cam. Oh yea can I use the old rocker arms if they are not in order? (Friend mixed it up when I was taking them off)

if there are no plates to guide the side to side movement of the pushrods then the tip of the valve needs to be self alighning. it will have a little dibbit in the middle to ride the top of the valve stem.

did you advance the initail timing a little. you hafta compensate for what the motor is gonna think is a bigger cam, just put a little more timing in it and it should smooth out nicely.
if you don't have self aligners you will need guide plates, but i don't think standard ones will work. you may hafta look into that. the centerbolt heads align the pushrod a little different.
