Drop or not?
I've read Snuf's article on OE several times. I understand that if I go with drop base I am to leave the spacer ring and if I go with non drop base, I take the ring off. What does everyone here recommend? I know for sure I am ordering a 14X3 K&N chrome OE very soon since I have money
. Just wanted the opinions on which one would give me less hassle. I understand I may have to make other adjustments but that's just the wonderful world of mods.

I have a elderbrock drop base and i have no problem with it. it is very good it is just one thing i rubs agains the coil wires well here are some pics i just took

Get the K&N non drop and remove the spacer. Clears the linkages just fine.
Prepare for the awesome "swooosh" sound.

If you plan on using a TBI spacer in the future you should get the drop base. I have the drop base on top of an Edelbrock manifold and the wingnut contacts the padding under the hood. I would need a cowl or ram-air hood in order to get more clearance. You miht have more room if you have a firebird

Thanks for the reply guys. EVILFACE, I will take your advice and go with the non drop base, KNN-60-1264. Pukka, I don't think I'll put a spacer anytime soon. I guess if I decide to I'll just have to get one of those ram air hoods.

i would say drop = no hassle.
its same as stock, will clear your linkages and you dont have to mess with the stud bolt being too long.
honestly, how much power can you gain from using a nondrop? somebody tells me more than 4 horse, ill laugh my ace off.

Sorry, but I just had to do that.
have a nice weekend guys and just use whatever you got that fits. They'll all work just fine if you are careful upon installation and make sure that you have no interference probs.

I tried a drop base and it didn't clear much of anything near or on the throttle body. All I had to do with the stud bolt is trim it off with a dremel. But of course, everyone has a right to their opinion - even if it is wrong.
Just kidding.

blue92rs got a k&n drop base. had to do something with the stud though i beleive. other than that. no problems. havent seen him here for a while though.
guess you are right. on the stock argument. might have to mod the stud neway.
but, my main arg was that a drop or non drop wont make much power difference. just get one that fits easily. if you buy one that doesnt take it back and get a differnt style.
