questions about engine blocks...help me

My car got towed last night and when i was picking it up i noticed an engine block sitting off to the side. it is just the block no crankshaft no pistons nothing he said 50 dollars and its mine. it is a 2 bolt main that is another question whats the difference between 4 bolt main and 2 bolt main which is better? should i go for this engine? and how much am i looking at to put together a powerful 350 that can still be daily drivin?
Thanks
Shawn

A 4 bolt main has 2 caps on each side as opposed to 1cap on each side for a 2 bolt main.A 350 would be worth it,but it doesnt really matter if it is a 2 or 4 bolt main.Ther are a lot of opoins on this subject, but a 2 bolt can do the same job as a4 bolt. The 4 is supposed to be stronger on the bottom end.Unless this is a drag or nitro car,or the car reves over 5500 rpms, there is no true need.Just what you really want.

What are you thinking about doing?A fast 350 nothing special should range from 1500-3000$.A really fast 350 should range about $3500-4500. Thats a close ballpark figure though. This mainly for a carb. engine.Feul injected will be a little more depending on if the car came fuel injected.

Head over to your local Barnes and Noble and spend the day in the Automotive section. There are a ton of books that can show you what it takes to design/build an engine. After you decide what you want from your car and when you get down to the nitty gritty, then ask questions of boards like this. There is no way that people can answer a question like that without you first doing a hella-analysis of what you want. Then when you know what you want - hit B & N. Then when you need some finer details or clarification, ask away. The important thing to remember (and please don't think I'm a **** or anything) is you need a base from which to speak, and you don't have one yet. That is true with anything and especially with cars/engines.

Just my $.02 worth,

Steve

i am basically kicking around my ideas and looking for some advice fromknowledgable people on whether it would be worth it or not to buy the block. I AM NOT LOOKING to spend a day in b & n.
If i did buy the engine and all i would most likely want to keep it tbi and i am looking at getting above 350 horses but not above 400. thanks guys

Shawn,

An informed engine builder is a GOOD engine builder...anything else is just rice! Also, you have to decide how YOU want to build this car...Do you have to worry about emissions? That's a big factor right there. Is the car going to be a daily driver? Are you planning on using nitrous? IMHO I wouldn't bother with some block that's sitting at a wrecking yard for $50. By the time you finish it you could have bought a GMPP engine and been done with it.

Later,

Oops,

Looks like I asked a question that already had an answer...disregard that one.
