305 TBI
One day I would like to completely built up my 305, keeping TB injection. The power an engine makes is related to how well it breathes, combusts, and flows out exhaust right? That said, how much power (flywheel) do you think can be made using 305 TBI, without any power adders, strictly engine work. The best heads, headers, cam, pistons, intake, TB (not the holley ones!, either the stock one, 2", or one of snflupigus' new designs), etc. I know I could easily drop in a 350+ and make plenty of power but I want to be different. Besides, if I want 350+ power, that's what the vette is for.

I think a rebulit 305 TBI with performance parts from the ground up can get you pretty close to 300HP if not over it. And I'd bet you could still keep the stock TBI unit

92 Camaro RS, LO3, 5-spd, T-tops
Performance:
K&N Open Air Filter, Edelbrock performer TBI intake, Fastchip Prom, Timing +4 degrees, Centerforce clutch, Xact 8mm wires, SLP 1 3/4" Headers (coated), Flowmaster Catback Exhaust, Z28 Grille w/aftmkt fog lamps, MacEwen white-face guages

NEXT UP: TBI mods, 3.42 gears w/Torsen posi

I got my Camaro Performers mag yesterday and they done a 305 build. They used a mild cam by Comp Cams,305 SR Torquer heads, bored the engine .030 over. The only differance is that they used a TPI set up.They got 266hp and 337lb-ft.I dont know what kind of cam they used.If you put headers and a good exhaust on it you could very well get 300hp.

ive got sport truck magazine. june 2000.
budget 305 buildup. they used the vortec heads and a performer rpm. and got 325hp and 316lb ftlb.
1.6 rockers did nothing, nor did a one inch spacer. spacer was good for .8 more peak hp. so if you are thinking of a spacer, dont bother. mind you that was on a maxed out 305.
anyway. what i really wanted to say was. at the end of the article the noted they also built a 305 with sr torquers. same cam ( comp extreme energy 262), victor jr, and a holley 750 to make 297 and 308lb ft.
both with full length headers. they said dont compare the #'s equally because the manifolds were so different.
that was engine dyno hp. so. go get that 300hp

Was all this on the stock TB? I wonder what kind of numbers it would push with fully ported vortec heads and ported/polished intake. Also, do you know where the power band was for this setup?

no that was a 650 and 750 holley. the same could be found from a 2"tbi, or even the stock modified one with the right manifold.
with the vortec heads. the l31's milled.
the hp curve is a 45 degree angle from 120 up to 325.
the torque curve is a dome from 245 to 245. thats from o-6k rpm. peaks on the even shaped dome at 4900 rpm at 318.
heres the cam specs
pn# 12-238-2.
GROSS DURATION. 262intake, 270 exhaust
JDA. 110
intake centerline. 106
lift w/ 1.5rockers. .462 intake, .469 exhaust
cam alone with new springs and timing chain boosted the hp. from 228 to 269.
ill scan these pages soon for all to see.

I agree with snflupigus. I have that article scanned on http://www.bharris.org/camaro The main thing I would change about that setup is use a ZZ4 or TPIS ZZ9 roller cam instead of the flat tappet they use. Should make as much or more HP and would make it more friendly for the TBI. You shouldn't have to change TBI. Just replace that whimpy fuel pump and up the fuel pressure a couple of lbs.
