Air temperature sensor

When the Air Temperature sensor is put in a colder place to give more power how exactly is it supposed to do that?

Does it tell the computer to richen a little?

The computer will richen the mixture when it senses the lower tep. I used a resister in mine to lower it to about 56*

Someone told me that the ATS also tells the computer to retard timing when the air gets hot. Is that true in addition to changing the mixture??
If so, then open element guys should relocate
the ATS to a colder place? Sorry to be dumb on this..............bob

I don't know if the IAT sensor retards knock but it could. That would be a good question to ask Grumpy over on the Eprom board. The whole idea about using a resistor is to make the ecm think the air is cooler = more fuel. It's a way for somebody to do mods to our speed density setup and not require a custom chip. It helps will little things like the open element and exhaust work, if you change intake manifold, cam, heads, any stuff like that then you wouldn't be able to "tune" with the resistor trick.

What temperature would it need to think it was to help with a set of headers?

Im using an 8.2 ohm resistor with headers and it really made a difference. I originally made a mistake and installed a 4.7. OUCH! The thing ran like POOP!
