CHEAP mods for my slow-beans 305 TBI

Okay I read the "free mods" and stuff. I'm definitely going to do that. But is there anything I can do to my TBI car to make it gain some cheap horsepower? I know I cant make big HP but with half a dozen el cheapo mods its worth one big mod right?

Open element, do all the ultimate TBI mods. Check out the tech articles. You could gut the cat converter but it won't make a difference since you probably have the stock exhaust manifolds and y-pipe.

You can gut the cat and go with a less expensive muffler from Dynomax or Flowmaster, etc. The Dynomax is about $45, the Flowmaster, about $75. It all depends on your budget. I wouldn't (myself anyway) spend more than $50 on a muffler unless you were gonna replace the whole exhaust. The factory pipes will do well for a cheap muffler. A higher flowing muffler alone will help HP and plus, sound better.

In all actuality, putting a 3" system behind a 2 1/4" cat isn't going to do any good at all. It sounds neat, but the cat is what's blocking the flow from the engine. It's like blowing air through a 10' straw, or blowing it through a 5' straw that goes into a 5' pipe. It ain't gonna be any easier to get the air outta the straw.

Cheap means some sacrifices, but you can work around that. You don't always have to spend a lot of green to get a lot of go.

I don't really want to gut my cat. How much for a really great high-flow cat?
