went racin!!

well i went racing for the first time tonight, and i was very very pleased with my cars performance.as you can read from my signature,i am completely stock except for the flowmaster muffler, which really doesnt do anything except make my car sound good(atleast till i do an exhaust system and better induction).it ran a best of 16.248@84.70mph,60ft 2.36(remember,stock 2.73 gears),with a temp of 57 degrees,75% humidity, and barometer at 29.90 inches.i shifted manually at around 5300rpm,and just got into third gear at the finish line.i was really pleased with the performance,it being "only an RS" and all, stock to boot!cant wait till i get my new manifold and valvetrain now!!damn i need to win the lottery!!well just thought i would let ya'll know.goodnight!

that is pretty good for a stock car. that mph could be in the high 15's if you could hook a little bit better.
good work.

Just a hint 91rs,

I gotta 92 with a little more mods than you and have been to the track a few times. I found out, by trying it, that if you just let the car shift itself, you run a little quicker. Our cams run outta flow at around 4500-4800rpms. I haven't been since I did my mods, and my best time is a 16.99, but later I found out that my throttle cable had slipped outta the rubber tubing, and was binding up. It wouldn't let the butterfly open all the way. But that was the only time I ran that fast (or slow) , by letting the car shift itself.

If you experiment with letting the car shift itself, you might be surprised. Not that it'll always work though. Just a little FYI

at this point shifting the car myself is worth 3 to 5 tenths depending on weather. the hotter it is the less of a difference it makes.

I put mine in drive and it goes through the trap at 86 mph at 5500 RPM in second gear. i have never seen third in the quater and still with very little mods ran a 15.86. What would make my car shift to third at 5000 like it should. Even when I shift it manualy to third it stays in second till 5500+.

Well I didn't say it always worked. I had a 94 Z28 LT1 6spd that I pulled my best times by shifting at 5200rpm instead of the 5800 redline. SO NAH!!! HEHE!! Plus I read in CHP, MotorTrend, Car Craft, etc., that taking off at idle was best for that car. Well I pulled that same time by easing out the clutch at 2000 rpm. Probably due to my lack of expert drag racing. The only mod I had on that car was a Flowmaster muffler (not a cat-back, they didn't make it yet) and a K&N filter.

It's just that he said his car was basically stock. Your cars aren't. Once I get my car back to the track, I will experiment. Now that I got mods, it may be better for me to shift later now too. I was just trying to help
