Took it to the track........times within

Last night I ran my 89 Formula for poop and giggles at Speedway International by St Louis. Here are the times (just one pass):

R/T .755
60' 2.454
330 6.848
1/8 10.434
MPH 69.07
1000 13.496
1/4 16.081
MPH 88.72

The last time I ran about two years ago I had a 16.3 @ 85. Only change since then was the open element and fan switch. The times are not the best I know. She is HEAVY @ 3750 with me in it. I wanted to get a baseline before I do the posi 3.73 swap; currently 2.73 open. Timing is set to stock.

Any comments/suggestions?

Since your doing stuff for $hits and giggles why don't you pull the TBI unit, grind down the ridges, make an injector spacer, make the fuel pressure regulator adjustable, and bump the timing up a few degrees. This stuff won't cost you a red cent and will net you a few tenths at the track.

that is a really good time actually, at least the mph is strong. you musta spun the **** out of the tire though. that is a really good mph. if you can hook with the posi you should be able to get close to the 14's.

good luck

WOW, I would have never thought that 15s would be in site let alone 14s! The car feels strong, but unfortunately the Futura GLH Pep Boy specials are bald. I really didn't think I spun though.

I'll be getting tires (Yoko Avid Intermediates) in the near future after the new gears are installed an have broken in.

wow..another person from luck town!!! alright. Those are some good times to man. NOw, i've got a 2.8L v6 slighty built, but i raced a dudes 1991 camaro with the 305TBI in it, we ran dead even, and he's dead stock, said the motor was rebuilt about 40k ago. my 2.8L is about 8k old with a .040 bore over, accel cap, rotor, wires, i've got the supercoil but it's not on yet. Then the tranny was rebuilt about 1k ago, and has a vette servo ( i don't know what that consists of, but i told the shop to put it in) and a shift kit (that the shop through in for free),plus the boosted my line pressure. that got her shifting good. Anyway,i was wondering what those TBI's run stock?just curious, i'm trying to help this guy prepare his car to be "fast" or at least "faster". Thanks.

p.s.
u ever seen a guy at the track drivng a 3.1L firebird, he's built her up to run 15.9, and that was on a bad cylinder. Anyway, just curious i haven't made it out to gateway yet.

I don't think that gears and posi alone would get a car into the 14s. If you see I have done some extras to help the LO3 breathe a litte better. Hey, I'm not banking on anything just yet. Gears will make an improvement. How much so will be determined at the track.

Thanks for the reassurance that the times were good. Personnaly I thought they were a little slow. I've seen guys on the board in the mid 15s with the same mods. I think my car needs to go on a diet!

my logic in saying that it is close or mayeb capable of a 14 is this. 88mph = about a 15.3 or .4. figure with that 60ft time he is already wasting at least 1.5 tenths. gears are always worth 2-4 tenths. also he is not using all the mph he can get because if the tires are spinnign the car is not accelerating, figure another .5mph.
with some good hook that would be damn close to a 14. not a sure thing but i would say a 15.2 at worst.
