i have the open 3.08 rear and i was wondering if i should get a locker or get a whole rear end out of iroc? i would think the locker is good for the money and my buddy said he can do it (for free) in less than an hour?

get the entire rear out of a v6 fbody. they had 3.73's, then get the powertrax lockup unit. you should be able to get all of that for under 450. and youve then got a lockup rear, that will take all the power your car could give it. assuming you dont have a monster. but if you did have, you wouldnt be asking that question

He's probably referring to drum rear end because they are generally cheaper then disk, stick with rear brakes you have, unless you want to do a bunch of converting

yea i currently have rear drums, so that rear end will just bolt in with no mods? also, what year shoould i get, i thought some came with 3.42's.

It was the 4cyl that got the 3.73 gears, (those 90 hp brutes needed every bit of help they could get just to move ) as far as I know all the V6s got 3.42s

Keep your eyes out for good deals. I picked up a 3.42 posi rear with disc breaks out of a 98Z for $325 dropped off at my door.

Of course I still need to get off my lazy *** and get it in

i just found an ad in the paper for a 83 with no motor for a hudred bux. i am gonna call him tommorow and go check it out. who knows, i may get a rear end and part out the rest of it. i know a guy who wants some body panels too. i may end up getting a hell of a deal.
