JPrevost!!!! ANYBODY Lean or Fuel Pressure

Listen a guy from Icon motorsports from the Tech Board said I may have a lean condition. It will pick up speed slow with no POP in the TBI........But if you give it throttle fast it will POP in the TBI but still has no Power. What is the factory PSI my inline meter should read. This is killing me being so close.

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING
Brian

Brian, I think it is a lean condition. I tried to make my car have the same problems as you and when I got it to run lean was when I had the problems with quick throttle. It idled fine, a little choppy but it did, then when I slowely get going it stumbles a little. If I stomp on it the thing almost quits and BANG big backfire! This sounds exactly like what you're problems, at least that's what I remember when I was there. You definatly are going to be running lean with 40 injectors, stock fuel pressure and stock chip!
I talked to Kyle yesterday, he called, I told him that I have some solutions for "tuning" and he'll tell you about it.
For right now crank up that fuel pressure a LOT. Like 15 or even more. See if it gets better. It'll probably run really rich at idle but the "problems" should be less noticable when you give it some throttle.
E-mail me your addy and I'll send out a chip for you that has a richer fuel curve. Just tell me if it's running really rich at idle or not. The chip I burn for you might not be perfect but it should be a LOT better than the stock unit for your combo. I'll keep everything stock except for pumpshot, VE table, and injector constant.
I would bet money that it's a lean condition after watching how my engine reacted to a lean eprom.

John that sounds great. I truied to tell Brian to get some larger injectors off a 350 or something, but he siad he is going to make the adjustable fuel pressure regulator first and see if that helps. I forgot that you can make you car lean like that from programming a chip. Thank you, man that is so cool you will have to help me learn to do that once I get my car back together.
Remember I said back a long time ago that I thougt it was doiong it because it was so lean? MAybe you hadn't been ther yet, ut I said this a long time ago. Anywho the being rich and blowing black smoke was what made Brian believe it wasn't true, but that was only at Idle and I tried to tell him that there was just not enough fuel whn you open the throttle fast.

If you can program that chip just like yours and make it rich as hell because you engine should have abouty the smae needs as Brians with the Cam and heads allowing it to flow som much better. I mean its just my suggestion, but it seems to make sense that yyour and his would have similar needs and his chip would just have to big over on the rich side.

Thanks

The 454 injectors are twice the size of the stock 305's. They are WAY too big. You need some 55 MAYBE. Just bump up the fuel pressure for now. That should fix your top end BUT the Lo3 doesn't like high rpms anyways. If you have stock cam and rockers then that is you're problem, not the fuel.

Change your fuel filter lately? Good idea if you can't remember the last time. If you think it is running lean and not getting any fuel up top then romp on it until it acts up then turn the key to off and coast to the side of the road. Pop hood and check the spark plugs.

I just replaced my fuel pump (holly unit...something like twice the flow) and the filter. It SEVERELY dropped me in time at the strip but my plugs are still white like they are not getting enough fuel. I changed them after I changed the pump so I know that they were not white still from before. How do I get my car to run richer? I did not understand in the tech article how to get mine adjustable. It is also an aftermarket chip that is supposedly giving it more fuel. Any advice will be of great appreciation. Thanks
