Anyone have TBI setup that runs 12's or 13's

Are 12's or 13's possible w/ a TBI setup? If so what mods are good to achieve this? Just wondering.

Here is a formula that I know works. 125 HP shot of NOS, posi traction 3.42 or 3.73 gears. Those are the big adders, exhaust and good intake and ignition is also important. Then you need traction...drag slicks and lower control arms.

How is that "boat" running Dan? Did you get the BPW figured out and at what psi are you trying it at? I have the Holley 670 and the psi wants to move around. Poor quality!

Well, let's just say it's been one unbelievable thing after another. I get her running, she's idling nicely all by herself, no leaks anywhere... I'm thinking "Suhweeeet..." Then I glance at the temp gauge and see it climbing to 2-friggin-50... WTF! Shut her down, check the thermostat - it's good and wide open. Check the water pump - the three hundred dollar water pump and it's just humming, not turning no water flowing nothing. Jeeezuz... So I call 'em up, talk to 'em and 30 minutes later I'm down at the FedEx shipping it out to them for fix or replacement.

No wait, it gets better.

I could have just thrown a stock pump on, gotten another thousand dollar belt and been able to break her in, BUT I no longer have the pulley that goes on the front of the pump. I mean, why would I keep it? I just got a new, and did I mention, three hundred dollar electric water pump. I am damn near friggin over this whole deal. It had better be worth it.

After all this crap it had better run elevens. It had better, to coin a phrase from a movie, "Scare the **** out of me."

What do you have cooking out there Dan? New engine? Whatcha got? Talk to me Goose...

I'm in the process of upgrading/moving my website so I hope to have a bunch of stuff up by next weekend.

Darth Steve

EDIT: Okay, newsflash - Imira doesn't let you link to pictures...

I think Tim (electronics board moderator) has a pretty quick TBI car.

Man, I know about the one thing after another thing... Most people say if you think its going to take an hour, plan for two. For me its more like I had better plan on an afternoon project taking 3 months because something always goes wrong. I'll spare you and my fingers from the list... If I tried to tell you everyting thats gone wrong from the beginning, I'd be here all night and might get 1/2 way through it.

The BPW thing looks to be pretty close... close enough to drive it anyway. The altitude takes about 80 hp from me so those 90# units will be more than adequate at stock pressures. I've got a problem since I installed the GM TBI unit that I haven’t found time to work out... The car starts and idles nicely but makes this god-awful screeching noise. At first I thought it was the injectors but I ruled them out and now think its the regulator. After about 1-2 minutes of running, it starts cutting fuel out intermittently. Maybe next week I can find some time and swap out the regulator.

Anyway, its got the same short block as before, I just swapped on some AFR 195's with the Weiand 7525 intake and a 2" GM 2bbl TBI unit with the Waldburo 255l pump. If things could stop going wrong so I can actually do some tuning, I'll be happy.

Lets see, what else is new... I'm in the process of moving into a place with a 2-car garage all to myself instead of sharing a 1-car... I've got a new toy that I think is going to work out very well... its shown excellent repeatability/resolution thus far:

the ability to work with the data w/o having to deal with Mike Chaneys home dyno is great.

hmm, hadnt thought of running an electric pump. Are they ok to run for long durations like road trips of an hour+ or around town driving?

I hear ya brother... It's always "Well, I might as well wait to do this until I do this..." Gets pretty friggin old.

It's funny you mention (a) the screeching noise and (b) the intermittent fuel.

Mine does both too. However, I think the screeching is my mini-starter as it pretty much stops once I stop cranking - can't check right now, but... The intermittent fuel is weird. I thought I had fixed it once I decided to re-hook up my charcoal canister, but it was still there. Then I thought maybe since my engine was obviously not getting cooled by the water pump that the computer was pulling fuel due to the high temp, but it's an erratic spray not a finer and finer spray until it stops. Pressure stays at a rock steady 12 psi, even with the erratic spray; leading me to believe the computer is firing it that way on purpose. Until I get it running long enough to make sure it works I can't even attempt the Haltech to see what in hell is going on...

The guys at Aeromotive assured me that the pump would run just fine on a daily driver. Something like 20,000 hours between failures and they're rebuildable.

That meter looks pretty sweet, let us know how it works out. Once you get a chance to use it of course...

I've used it on my other car (cough, won't mention the make or model here) and it does show good resolution... good enough to show the differences between a hot and cold intake. I also took it to pueblo to do some altitude comparison runs which it can do no problem(4500 ft vs 6000 ft). Resolution seems to be 0-2 hp.
