LO3's and does it like turning higher RPM's? opinions needed
ok heres the deal...now that i have my new gears (3.73's) the car turns a little higher RPM (duh thats kinda the idea but i have a question)...i cruise down the highway and at around 1900rpm's ill be going 55...it usually turns about 2,300 when i drive because obviously nobody does 55...now the lo3 doesn't turn very high rpms from the factory mainly due to the high (low numericaly) gear ratio usually 2.73 or 3.08 but are they designed to handle long trips at these higher RPM's???...maybe i'm just thinking too hard about this but anyones opinions or better yet facts would be great...thanks guys

Yes it will be ok to cruise at 2300 to 2500 RPM all day long in any L03 as long as the lower end is in good shape, just watch the temp. gauge and make sure it does not overheat, the bad thing about the stock engine is it will start running out of breath at about 4000 RPM.

Yeah, I've lost 5th gear in my firebird (GODDAMN T-@#$% 5!), but I still make the 650 mile (one way) trip to see my girlfriend every few weeks. I cruise at 3000RPM, or a little over 70MPH. The way I see it is, older american cars used to only have a direct drive final transmission (1:1 3rd gears). A lot of them used to have deeper gears than 3.08 too. If they can cruise the highways happily, I can too.
My car is quite happy to pull that many revs for 8 hours straight.

Jester had his a 6000RPM with no problem with a carb. Our RPM is low for longevity of the engine, and because our cam, exaust, and heads suck.
