350 tbi help from 93 Sierra

My dad's truck has the 350 tbi in it and when he starts it sometimes after it's been running he has to give it gas in order to keep it from dying out. I starts to sputter and wants to die out.

We think its the EGR? It was tuned up less than 10000 miles ago. Possibly an 02 sensor?

Any help? Thanks!

I would check the ECU for codes and ALL THE HOSES IN THE engine compartment for vac leaks. Also, if you JUST did aything to the engine/truck, that would be suspect, too.

My dad replaced the hoses when he tuned it up, and the only thing he had to change recently was the water pump, but that's been on for a month. Perhaps it is a vac leak... damn vac lines

Thanks!

Thanks again everyone. It didnt throw any codes and we checked 'er today for leaks, but to no avail. I think tomorrow he's gonna play with the egr, see whats going on.

But I can say that its been one kick *** motor. 130k miles with only a new alternator, water pump, and starter (ironically the same three things I've replaced on my car). Runs like it has 5 miles on it, and he's done his share of towing and hauling for his work (industrial tools salesman). Couldnt have asked for a better engine.

Your going to want to check the Idle Air Control (IAC). I just helped a friend last night with his '92 Chevy truck's sputtering problem. I pulled out the IAC and it was seized, it wouldn't move at all! It's supposed to srcew in & out with air demands of the engine. Got it to move with some pliers, put it back in and problem solved! I think a new one runs around $45.

On the pass. side of the TBI right behind the TPS. Its round and has a 4-pin plug going to it, and it'll take a 1 1/4 inch wrench to get it off.

Thanks!

I have a 93 5.7 Silverado . Have you looked at the EGR yet, it wont want to run at low rpm if the egr is stuck open. Also bad plug wires will cause stumble and hesitation--MSD makes a nice set for our trucks-I have them on mine. Good luck
