Idle is down but i Still have problems

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was advancing and not retarding afterall. I was told wrong by someone. Anyway I still have problems. I retarded it to get the idle back to around 650 or so but the car is still rich and runs real rough and has the shakes. It hesitates to and feels like I have no power. At one point I reved it a little and say a spurt come out of the throttle body. I was sitting in the drivers seat with the hood up so i am not for sure that is where it came from. When I slid the distributor back in the rotor lined up with my mark on the distributor so I asummed I was back at TDC. Could I be a tooth off o would the car not even run this way. Any how, because i don't have a light I am gonna go get it set tomm morn. Should I ask to have it set at 4 or 6 degrees or something else.

Have them make sure the plug wires are on the right cyclinders. Two wires that are on the wrong cyclinders will make your car run like poo. What grade off gas do you normaly use? That will determine where you should set your initial timing. The better the gas the more advance you can use to a point.

I run 93 octane with no problems, always have. I am positive the wires on on right. I even labled them to double check.

You sure you don't have any vacuum leaks? Plugs are all in good? I'm out of ideas, check the whole igition system.

Plugs, wires, cap and rotor are all brand new. i think I might be a tooth off on the distributor.

Could be your distributor is 180 degrees off. Best way to check is by looking at the timing.

I run mine 4 degrees advanced with 93 octane and have no problems.

If you had the distributor one tooth off you should still be able to time the engine to run a lot better than it sounds like it running now. Might be time to take it to a good, reliable, trustworthy, honest, knowledgable, confident, professional mechanic that knows what he's doing and won't charge much to fix it. Know any? I sure don't.

I read in an earlier post that it smoked after you put the intake on? What color was the smoke? The distributor can be several teeth off, you just got to rotate the dist to make up for it. Sounds to me like you have a large leak at the manifold. And if it smokes now(bluish or white) and didn't before i'd say you are either taking in water or oil. If it is black then it is just the mixture. Then you probably just have an air leak.
