how will a cam like this work?

the cam is a Comp cams and i can't remember the grind number but the specs are:
206/210 duration at .050
.450/.480 lift at .050
1000-5000rpm range

the description for the cam says "for stock TPI engines". Will this cam work with a basically stock TBI engine (mods:headers, exhaust system, intake) the heads will be original but I will replace the valve springs. Also will umbrella valve seals work with the stock heads instead of the GM o-ring?

This cam is similar to the GM '350 TPI' cam. I have a similar cam in my LB9 TPI (also a map driven 305) and it is pretty quick with great street manners.

It will work well in a TBI motor but may not be worth the time and effort (read $$$) to buy and install if you are not including it with other mods, eg: headers, free-flow exhaust, intake, etc. Although your factory TBI profile is roughly 176/192 degrees duration @.050 and the new cam represents a 30 degree increase on intake (the only number that really matters), the TBI system is so low-performance from the factory that the cam will need help to REALLY work for you. Have you looked into 1.6 rockers as well ?

have a nice day, RP.

TBI doesn't exactly repond well to just a cam change. You'll need hearders and an intake. to make it worth your while. Check the lobe separation on that cam, if it's more than 112* I wouldn't bother with it. my cam is 114* and it's the biggest mistake I've ever made. It'a a pain in the but to tune, it won't hold a constant vacuum so the MAP sensor is going nuts.

With that cam you will get a good low end pull but up high it won't give you much more than you have now. But you could pick come of that up with headers and an intake.

I don't understand. Generally the larger the LSA the greater the vacuum at idle. 114 should be easier to tune than say 110-108 given similar duration.

Sounds like a decent cam for a 305. What price is it going for and what intake and headers are you going to use?

I work at an auto parts store in Canada and i can get a discount on all this stuff. The price is $300 canadian, which is insanely cheap. The intake I'm goin for is edelbrock. headers I think will be dynomax cause i can get them for 500 painted. Cat-back will be dynomax also. You guys know anything bout the dynomax dual exhaust kits for our cars? I have no idea if they exit after or before the axle

I don't know how much $300 would be in American dollars, but you can buy a new LT1 camshaft from Advance auto parts for $76.99 + tax. It has 205* dur int, 207* exh, and has .447" lift int, .459" lift exh. It is a little smaller than the Comp one, but it is proven to work well with TBI.
