'88 TBI ECM on '89 RS

Will an ECM off a 1988 TBI 5.0 RS work on a 1989 TBI 5.0 RS? I understand the '89 has the VATS but I want to get rid of it completely. VAT-lessly in need of a simply yes or no answer.

It should work. The pin-outs on the 8063 ('88) and the 8746 ('89-'92) ECU's wiring harnesses are the same. If you ever want to get into chip programming though, I would warn against it. There are no do-it-yourself options on the 8063. You might consider going with the 7747 ECU out of late 80's to early 90's trucks and vans. They have no VATS and have a ton of programming resources available for 'em. Just a thought.

Sorry that my answer was a little more than a simple yes-or-no .

The 8746 is also a great ecm. Has more tuning options than the 7747 since the release of the hack file.

After having my last car stolen even with "the club" in front of my house, I'm glad I have the VATS.
