Yeah it is. It splits off when your heater is on it feeds coolant through the heater core, when its not it just runs it through the radiator. and its all vacuum operated.

I guess you could get rid of it, but your going to mess up your heater stuff. Just splice the hoses together and your either going to have heat on all the time or none at all.

you can move it, get longer hoses and put it somewhere else.

Just because coolant will go to your heater after doesn't mean it will blow hot all the time It will blow hot when the heater is on. The blower motor will push air through the heater. That's how it works.

1/4 inch pipe plugs for your manifolds is beleive, those are your air injection lines, that send o2 to your exhaust for better emissions to help the cat along.

You can plug them and it'll be fine. Sorry bro, but if you've got 180* water circulating into the cabin, it's gonna heat it up whether the blowers on or not.

enough with the guessing and shiet. Some 3rdgens never had the heater valve and people have deleted it and not noticed extra heat in their car.

hey i dont think that those hoses he's talking about are the heater hoses.he also mentioned a black box,so i think he's talking about the AIR diverter valve(im pretty sure that box is the diverter valve).i just looked at it and yes it is above the passenger v.c. and it is a black box with i believe 5 hoses on it.the heater valve is right to the right of it.

That box is the A.I.R diverter valve switch that switches on or off allowing air into your exhaust manifolds and catalytic converter to dilute the exhaust gases (I sound like the friggin' Science Guy)depending on your engine temp and whether you're in open or closed loop. I took all that crap out and my computer doesn't throw a code.

The AIR diverter valve is worth over $300 brand new. You may be able to sell it for some cash.

I can't imagine who would spend anywhere near $300 to add emissions equipment to his/her car.

I think he IS talking about the diverter valve. the heater valve is a little round shaped thing that sits right above the pass. side v.c.. the air diverter is right next to it. To check, the hoses on the heater valve are flexible, so you can move it. The diverter on the other hand is rigid and wil not move. If you remove the diverter box, then with it you can remove the smog pump, and the air tubes that run into the manifold and plug them with 1/4" brass plugs. You'll have to either get a shorter belt, or play around with the routing of the stock one if you remove the smog pump. Some of the third gens didn't have the air diverter box because they ran on carbs, and did'nt have all of the emmission control **** that the newer ones do.

you would pay that much for it, not now, but in about 20 years. TRUST ME. i now own a 69 that needs restored, people pay huge money for original stuff, try 8 dollars for a correct bolt. save it in a box in your garage, sell it later. investing is fun isnt it.

The reason it costs so much is because GM is the only place that makes it.

Live in an emissions state and you could EASILY spend that much to get a car through emissions testing
