What do I need to do to hit 14's now...?
What do I need to do to hit 14's now...?
My friends want me to finally run my car... I just want 14.999 or lower.. What can I do to hit that?
(305 tbi)
This is what I've done so far:
Free mods, ajustable fuel pressure regulator, Edelbrock Performer intake, timing advanced 6*, Edelbrock TES (3" y pipe), 3" catco cat, 3" american thunder cat back, 3.73 gears w/posi, Lakewood LCA's with LCA reloc. brackets, kyb shocks & struts, 3" open element air cleaner, hurst dual gate shifter.. thats all I can think of right now..
Would a tubular torque arm with poly bushings help? How bout 1.6 rockers?
I don't have time to do heads + cam right now.. I know nitrous would get me into 14's.. What should I be running now, and about how much HP?
Thanks to anyone who has read this. It may waste your time but it helps me..

here is the deal. first of all the big thing is gonna be traction, and that can be done on the cheap if you want to.
1. box the stock rear control arms
2. relocator brackets
3. a posi with 3.73 gears
4. poly bushings on control arms, torque arm, and tranny
5. open element air filter, flat base
6. ultimate tbi mods, including the throttle body
7. drop the front sway bar when you run it to promote weight transfer
8. grippy tires, slicks adn skinnies aren't needed but would help a lot
9. remaove jack, spare, rear seats and seat belts, and run on a half tank of gas or less
10. ALDL lockup
11. an edelbrock or holley tbi intake
12. headers, y-pipe, and a cat back. anything is better than stock(ditch or punch cat for max gians)
13. shift at 5K rpm
with this stuff you should be able to do it. the 1.6 rockers will help a too, just remeber to advance the timing a bit more when you put them on.
hope this helps

I ran against a stang that runs 15.2's and lost by 1/2 car length.. That was before I advanced the timing and before I put the edelbrock TBI manifold on..
What would be better: 1.6 Full rollers and a torque arm, or: a chip, ignition kit and pulleys.. What do you guys think?

i would try to find an LT1 cam if i were you. the rockers are nice but i can say from experience that they are just a patch job to gettign a real cam.
you can comb through the other boards ad find one for $20-50 usually.
then you will eat that stang for lunch

Yeah I hear ya man.. See the problem is, I have to work literally every other day, so I'd have to rush a cam swap.. The intake swap took the good part of 10 hours to do and I can't just be without the car.. Thats why I just want to do little patch jobs until I have some spare time...

I'd say right now you're knocking on 14.999's door. See if you can borrow some drs from a friend or find a good used set (itd be nice to have them mounted on a set of rims, too, so you can just put 'em on when needed).
Take 'er to the track and see what you come up with. Then you can figure out what you need to do!
Sounds like a great setup so far!
BTW, are those tes headders for the 5.7 tpi cars? I wanna get some but summits site says "NOT FOR THROTTLE BODY CARS." I was just assuming that's because it lacks the warm air thingy comming off the manifolds.

I would think with the right conditions you would run 14's right now...that 3.73 should do a lot for you...

Chuck, yeah, it's the ones for the 5.0/5.7 HO outputs (make sure you don't get the dual cat version).. It bolted up perfectly fine with no problems whatsoever.. get a 3" catco cat while your at it...
