WHY ISNT EVERYONE DOING THIS???

12366573 Vortec Intake Manifold for L31 Heads $225.00
12558060 1 ea. L31 Vortec Cylinder Head $225.00
http://www.bgcperformanceparts.com/

That would be the first rowdy TBI ive seen.... thrown in a used LT1 cam and id have a pretty good amount of respect for a TBI.

This just seems like to good of a deal for you guys to pass up, and the manifold is for holly carbs and ive seen you guys like the holley 670 cfm carbs? What do you guys think?

If you can figure out a way to make them emmisions legal then I'll do it. Vortec heads don't have EGR provisions, or so i've been told..

Car: 91 Camaro RS Convertible
Engine: 385ci LT1 cnc ported heads big cam
Transmission: 4L60E automatic
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Zexel posi 7.5" rear
My plan is to tap into the passenger side header collector and use stainless line to route the exhaust up to where I can put egr on it. I was planning on getting the assembly from a v6 Fiero or other 2.8L car since they run external EGR's. and then plumb it into the egr inlet that is in the rear of the vortec intake manifolds. The Vortec intake manifold have an egr pipe inlet in the rear of the intake near the distributor.

The compression ratio will plumit from using a 64cc head on a 305. You can shave um to get some back, but they really are only a 350 head. Plus, you'll need computer work and possibly valvetrain work. You also have to get headers. The list goes on.

There's actually quicker TBI's here (no offense, Birmass, that's still a damn good time).
We have one that ran a 13.1, and NJspeeder is close to having a similar timeslip.

Don't worry. If you guys will note my 60ft time and see that I don't have posi, you will notice that there is HUGE room for improvement. My computer also needs some help. I'll hit 12's with the right tuning and tires .

Unfortunately I want better tuning options so I've gone and bought an Accel Pro-Ram. It's an MPFI system with computer, intake(made by John Lenginfelter), 750 throttle body, and wiring harness. I'll be able to program with a laptop while the car is running and easily upgrade in the future.

not everybody is doing it because not everybody has nearly 800$ to spend on their car, plus the 300 and hours spent to tune, the more $ on exhaust and other things that will come up after the upgrade.

not to knock it, because i love seeing people modify their cars, im just giving reasons of why everybody is not doing it.

if you got the cash, that would be a nice way to go. but the age old argument comes back, with that kinda cash, your $ per hp, goes twards thinking of 350.

First off the L31 heads aren't exactly a bolt on item. Sure they Bolt to the block But the intake bolt pattern is different unless you get the one's drill for the "old style" then you have the above mentioned Compression probelm and if you shave them the .035-.040" that you need to you then have a problem lining up the intake. The spread on the heads is too wide and there aren't any intakes that cover that so you have to have special adapters made up to make your mandifold work. Then even if you do that the intke port position design on the Vortec stuff is different than the old style intakes and takes some serious port matching to make that work. By the time it's all said and done you are looking at about $1000 in a set of $400 heads just to make them work. Yes they are great heads but it's just too much work and cash to get them to go on a 305 "correctly." But that's just my opinion and what I've found out through my research.

it doesn't bolt up but that doesn't mean that it can't bolt up. Shane B put a weiand on his vortec heads.
