Cams Cams and more Cams

Allright. Im deciding on a cam for my 92 LO3. I'm looking at all options, aftermarket roller cams, lt1 or lt4 rollercams, or aftermarket tappet cams. Whats your opinions on whats best for the least money. I would like a noticible lope but still get good power throughout the powerband too.

Check out COMP Cams' web site. Go to the HTML section of their catalog and start looking on page 59. They have descriptions of the cams, all the specs, and tell you what kind of idle to expect. In general, LSAs of about 110 degrees will help give a lopey idle. From there, I'd say pick a cam with just the right duration to match the heads and intake you'll be using. The intake duration corresponds to where the cam will make its power in the RPM range. RPM ranges are listed also so you don't have to look up cam duration vs. rpm.

Save some bucks and slap a LT1 in that LO3....you'll notice such a power increase it isn't funny. Add to that it's cheap and you can save cash for other things like a 3.42 rear...
