1000CFM TBI unit

Has anyone ever considered just gutting the stock TBI and sleeving the center to be a single blade oval? Does the injector pod really need 3 screws to keep it secure. Removing the center would have to be good for atleast 300CFM depending on the throttle bore size.

Figure CNC the center right out and use .0625 aluminum for the sleeve. Just a thought.

I have a spare TBI unit if anyone cared to try......

Comments?

Re: 1000CFM TBI unit

hmmmm......it seems like it would work! I mean the TPI throttle bodies are oval so why couldn't the TBI one's be oval!?!

Although you would also have to cut out the intake as well!

You would probably also need one single large injector unless of course some how you used the two existing injector thingy's!

If I had the machinery then I would do it!

Street Lethal did something similar to this. See his 'Connan the destroyer' thread.

His is probably as close as you can get without plowing over all the passages in the TBI.

Ritter,
No way to mount only 1 injector, plus it would be next to impossible to get 1 injector to flow as high was we needed.

va454ss,
You mean it doesn't need 3 screws right? Not the 300 CFM? Who did your unit?

dimented24x7,
What would it matter if we removed the passages? Its just the vacumm, as long as it was notched out in the sleeve, it would still do its job

Correct. In the pic you can see the center support for the pod is gone.

A guy over at www.454ss.com modifies the TB's. Bores are cut out and sleeved to 2.2"; also uses a thin throttle shaft.

Could you get us in touch with this fella? My blower needs alot more air than the stock BBC TBI can deliver.

Not really, so long as you dont cut excessivly into the vacuum nipples or go through the casting. Youd also have to stay within 1/8" of the perimeter of the TBI gasket. In addition, you also have to be careful with the throttle shaft. With a large monoblade, it will be subjected to alot of force from the pressure differential (up to around 12 PSI or so on decel)

Just out of curiosity, what kind of pressure drop are you seeing across the TB?

Re: 1000CFM TBI unit

I believe V8Astro Captain was running a Bogajet 750 CFM and was getting 6PSI, now with the TBI 50mm bore he is only getting 3PSI.
