Restrictor Plate Cam Lobe Profiles. Good for us?
Reading hotrod. they are building a nice 289 ford. reading, they are using a custom comp cams ground shaft, using winston cup style lobe profiles to help compensate for the two barrel carb they are using on this vintage racing engine that requires a 2bbl. "the design reduces seat time to bleed cylinder pressure at low engine speed but bolsters intake flow as revs climb to offset a restrictive intake tract."
the above sounds like it could be good for us too.
specs: duration @ .050: 244/248
gross lift: .584
lash: .018/.020
centerline: 109
1.6 roller rockers.
the engine is 9.25:1 compression with heads that flow 237 intake and 185 exhaust. they also intentionally limited the exhaust port flow to less than 80 percent of intake flow above .400 lift to maintain a scavanging effect.
these mods to this 289, built for a mexican road race, have some principals i think we could apply to modding our engines as well. what do you guys think.
btw this 289 ford made 350hp @ 6700rpm & 316ft/lbs, with a 2bbl, on 87 octane.

how does that cam duration compare to stock? can the TBI computer handle it?

that would read as way to much lift with way too much duration. it would have no vacuum at idle and it would make the ecm completely flip out.

NJ is right. Those fancy words mean TONS of overall and .050" duration... with 109 lobe center, it would be a miracle if the engine even started/ran with an OEM'ish PROM. VERY low vac signal on that baby at idle, and it would have to idle at about 1300-1500rpm to even start a vac signal...

you guys all missed my point.
i wouldnt dream of putting a cam like that in a stock l03.
im wondering if with some nice heads, lighter bottom end, new chip etc...
do you think that with a 2bbl tbi (the small one even), you could push 350hp with a 305?
i know it wouldnt idle well, stockish chip or not.
