penzoil is the last one you should use. The additves that are in it make it turn prematurely black before other oils.

I use Penzoil because I change my oil and oil filter every 3000 miles. I'm also a believer in method before product when it comes do fluids. If you don't flush a radiator before changing coolant, if you don't change oil filter when you change the oil, when you overfill the rear diff, overfill power steering, overfill tranny fluid. Do it right, don't expect a product to save your *** if you forget because THAT is the real risk. I will say that oils are getting more advanced and that the synthetics are looking better now that the price isn't so bad.

Mobil 1.
Did really well in all the bearing tests, EP tests, and high-heat tests I witnessed. All tests done by an independant group, BTW.
Castrol was also a good performer. Castrol's conventional is one of the best conventionals, but go with the synthetic.

Mobil 1 (or Redline...more expensive).
Used nothing but Mobil 1 after my 92 was broken-in and 305 TBI motor was still running perfect (when replaced with 350) after 225,000 miles.Never had the heads or intake off it!My 91 S10 blazer also running Mobil 1 has 210,000 miles and counting on original 4.3L V6.Friends used to say synthetic oil was a waste of money, but they're all starting to use it now!

I was using Mobil 1 in the '87 before I sent it into early retirement with an accident but that was at 220K miles on an original engine. I bought my '91 used and had no idea what had been put into it so I've been using regular Mobil and Castrol instead of synthetics for fear that the smaller molecules of the synthetics might actually clean my engine out and cause blow-by.

He is right. Synthetics "clean" the motor so well that blowby and gasket/seal leaks are common problem in older engines that were mainly used on conventionals but later switched over to synthetics.
