Running Rich

Hey i have a 92rs just replaced the motor still 305TBI,K&N,Helix power tower(tbi spacer),flowmasters,no cat(piped over),street&performance elec. chip,open element air cleaner,removed hood seals.

my question is what could be making my car run rich i can smell it in the exaust and how can i fix it, also my SES light comes on but i don't have a code reader thing. can ya help me out

you may want to look at the O2 sensor. that is the most common cause of the car running dead rich and throwing a code. if it fails or misreads it will just go to a default of reading "LEAN" and the ecm will add all the fuel it can get it's hands on. a new one is only about $20, so you may just want to swap it and see.
if that doesn't work, i woudl talk to the people you got the chip from if it is a custrom unit, they may have made a mistake in a perameter somewhere.

To read the codes you do not need a scanner, you only need a paper clip bent into a u shape and instal into the a and b terminals of the diagonstic link connection under the dash. Have the ing. key off, insert the paper clip and turn the key to on, but don't crank the car. The service eng. light will flash a sequence of numbers that you can look up in a manual or find online. This might be in tech central on this site. I did not look. Good luck.

ok i used that wire trick and threw 12,23,32,12 i heard the twelves are just at begining and end all the time that theres no problem there and i think my tbi spacer is whats givin me the 23 because i never adjusted my throttle line but i have no clue where the 32 came from
