timing, what to do?

i've noticed that some of the guys are advancing their timing, i've got a couple of questions on that.
factory sets it at 0*, correct?
and the engine needs to warm up to operating temp. before the timing drops back from the warmup level, yes?
how long does it usually take for the warmup?
because my gauge was reading operating temp., but the timing was still advanced to the warmup point.
the air temp was about 65*.
could someone explain to me exactly which parts of the spark curve are effected by advancing the distributor?
is 8* the right amount?

that's it for now, thanks

factory is 0* yes

i always here thats what you are suppose to let the engine warm up and thats what i do.

what does it take? it to be warm but let it sit there for 5 min and it should be more than good enough

maybe you are already advanced?

i think 8* sounds too much on a stock engine.

I sorta asked a lame question, if I'd looked in the book I would have found out that you're s'posed to unhook the lead to the ESC B4 checking the timing.

.... no point.

But I tried advancing it 8* and the exhaust burned my eyes at idle, although it felt like it may have had more power higher up.
I ended up setting it back to 0*.

I'm interested in finding out more about the spark curve, can someone help out?
Is there a publication or a site that has info on that?

thanks
