Ok, so why are LT1 cams one of the best mods for the L03?
My L03 is all stock basically and I'm still working on the game plan for mods but I've noticed that alot of people have gone to the LT1 cam instead of an aftermarket... why's this?
Up until about a year and a half ago I had no idea what headers were and I'm continuously learning. I tried to figure out cam specs and they're somewhat easy but I need some benchmarks. Can anybody explain how I can classify a cam when I see its specs? Ex: whats a hot cam, etc...

cheap and plentiful. Used LT1 cam = $50 or less.

Tas has got it right. When installed on a L03 motor, it acts just like a good performing aftermarket cam for our engines would.

haha, I had to trim that image out .
I don't do that often but I had to show my POWER, lol.
Sorry Taz but it is a little oncalled for considering this isn't a Mopar board. Nothing against Mopar (hemi rocks) but it just doesn't fit well into a GM f-body tech board.

keep the nos to a plate system, you aren't gonna be using enough air to take advantage of a fogger set up.

cam selection is a balancing act between peak power and drivability, this cam is just a really good balance of both worlds.
the fact that it is cheap and plentiful is just a happy coincidence.

Why does everyone seem to want to contradict me lately? LT1 cams are cheap. Some people get them for $20. I don't see people going for the better LT4 cam thats like $150 now. Does anyone?

i didn't mean to contradict you dude, sorry about that. i just wanted to point out th etechnical reasons fro the cam being so popular and good for our motors.
the reason i stayed away from the LT4 cam was because it looks(from my modeling and math) like it will be just a little too big for most peoples combos. the lift is enough that the valve will get into that fuzzy area where air flow probs are created, this will lower the amount of vacuum at idle. it will still have plenty of vacuum to keep that ecm working correctly, but it looks like throttle response and low rpm(below 2000) power are gonna suffer a very noticable amount.
also, the duration of the cam is long enopugh to create a power band that goes wells past the efficiancies of most peoples motors. the stock heads start falling off by 3700rpm, that woudl make a cam that wants to run past 5500rpm really suffer. this also puts the power band of the cam well past the flow range of a stock or edelbrock intake, it would be holley or 4 barrel intake time.
it is a good cam, and could work for someone who is still running 1.96/1.50 valves(like the torquer 305's) but it would take some living with around town prolly, and definately need a prom to take care of the idle/low end issues. for those of us that went to 2.02/260 valves, i think it woudl be just terrible at idle as it woudl have even less vacuum.
