heating problem

heating problem

Hello everyone, I have a 92 rs w/305tbi
my question why does my temp gauge go way up
when i am sitting at a traffic light or in a drive thru for a while then rapidly fall as i begin going again????

Transmission: fixed the 700r4 again!
well basically when you sittin theses no air flow going through the raditor colling it as well as up the air damn, thats why when your sittin your engine gets hot and when your driving it cools off. Also the stock cooling system really sucks but thats another topic..

does it rapidly go up and down, as if it was a bad guage or something, my oil pressure does that, i dont know why

Check your wires, make sure they haven't grounded out on the exhaust. Easy way to do that is an impedance test with a multimeter. Simply disconnect the wire from the sending unit, put one probe on a good chassis ground and another on the tip of the wire, if it buzzes you've shorted out your wire and need to replace it. You might want to clean up the sending unit and the wire connector, that was my problem. I wedged a small metal screw imbetween and gave it a few turns, now I don't have any false temp readings.

Hey Trent my oil pressure gauge does the same thing. Been doing it for around 3 years. I hope its just a broke gauge.
