Engine Rotates but doesnt start
Engine Rotates but doesnt start
i just finished installing the intake gaskets, and a timing chain, i aligned the 2 dots on the Timing sprokets perfectly, but i cant get my car to start up, bascially it cranks and cranks, and puffs of white smoke shoots out the the Throttle body bores, i think i might be lacking spark, i've removed my distributor, i also thougth i was 180 degrees out on the distributor, i rotated about 7 times i'd say still no luck, it seems to crank better now but still doesnt start up, does anyone have any idea what im overlooking or what could be wrong, if any has the answer or some troubleshoots that might be helpful, e-mail me at Londonaftermid21@aol.com

Did you check the timing? Even though the timing chain sprockets line up you could be waaaaaay out of time. Thats the only reason that I could think of for why its shooting out white smoke...

well guys i took some of my bosses advice at work today, he gave me some pointers, so what i found out is my car was trying to fire on the intake stroke of cylinder #1, and my distributor was completely firing the wrong cylinder so all i had to do is make sure my valves on Cyl #1 were closed on the compression stroke to 0 degrees TDC then rotate the Distributor so that the rotor point is aimed at the #1 Cyl terminal, then she fired right up, and then just needed a fine tuning Timing wise, thanks again guys,
mike
