Please help with bolt on TBI parts

Ok,

Well I figured out my bad idle and loading up problem on my car, VACUUM. Where from? A big gasket leak at the front of the intake manifold. So I am putting in the new gasket, and thought "gee might as well put some new stuff into mycar" lol I want to know what you guys suggest for bolt in upgrades etc... I have only tore apart an out of the car 350 before LONG time ago, so when you guys talk about machining Vortec heads I have no idea what you are talking about or where to go or what to tell them. My goal is to hit 300 flywheel HP with at least 20mpg CITY, if possible of course. I ahve the TBI, am going to keep the TBI and keep the 305 for right now, than upgrade to an ls1 later. Here are my thoughts please add as you feel needed.

Heads (but what kind?)
Manifold (but what kind part numbers etc...)
TBI spacer (turbo city)
injector spacers (turbo city)
Exhaust (<---- is really lost)

I currently have:

8.8mm wires
High Pro Distributor
14" K&N open air element
MSD 6al (which is making for harder starts)

Thanbks guys for all of your opinions.

James

I just read something about this in the last super chevy. They said that just using the GM hi-po vortec heads (better ports), they also changed the intake manifold, but I forgot what they put on, probably an edelbrock performer, then they changed the cam. I would say that just adding the heads and intake would make a pretty good power increase. I don't know if you'll get 300 flywheel horsepower (your only at about 170 now), but you will get a big jump.

For 300+ hp look to add headers, a way to get more air in, better cam, better injectors, 2" throttle body, new chip.

Its hard getting the 305 to be a performer, but it is possible if you have enough $$.

Thanks guys,

Well, I want the headers, exhaust, new cam, the roller rockers, new heads, I was thinking aobut thr 454 TBI with matched injectors and TBI spacer, new intake, aluminum water pulley, and a custom burnt chip. Will that hit what I want to hit? Waht specific products for each of those do you think best compliment each other. I am willing to look at 2000 into the engine, and maybe another 500 into the tranny, sicne I am doing so much to the interior and body (paint). I look at it this way, with my car, I drop 5k into it, I can literally get it back because I bought my convert SC three years ago for 2000, I have been offered 7k on the street for it, even when the top was all torn up. Kind of weird having guys walk up to you and start offering moeny to you lol So getting the money out of it isnt a concern of mine, plus I have made up my mind that I will NEVER sell my car, or give it to my kids (whenever that happens, let's jsut not hope to soon lol) So I just want to make it the best performing TBI for performance and economy available. I could totalyl drop a 502 in there and go "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" as I watch my mileage drop. I don't circle track or anything... Just, in the immortal words of tim allen, want "more power" lol

Thanks guys

The 454 TBI is probably going to be too much for your 305, it'll be like putting a 750 cfm carb on a v6. If anything look at turbo city tbi with the 2" bore. you could upgrade injectors or just regulate your fuel pressure better also. As for the intake, cam, and heads, holley or edelbrock puts together a performance kit that comes with all of the stuff that you need. Just call them up and tell them your setup. They can do the whole setup at once or just do parts. Their kits will probably still keep you emissions legal and still give you some streetability. As for headers I really don't know too much of what to recommend, thats something that I'm still checking into.

Recently the 3rd gens seem to be coming into their own, I just got 3 offers on mine and all three have been more than what I paid for the car 5 years ago. I gotta admit, I'm getting pretty tempted...

If you have anymore questions, just drop me an email.

I'm using the ported throttle body from Turbo City, also their Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator. So far I've been very happy with these on an Edelbrock Performer TBI Intake.
Seems like the 350 Truck injectors feed the 300HP 350 just fine, even with aftermarket hydraulic roller cam.Custom chip helps.
My exhaust consists of:SLP Headers/Y-Pipe,Catco 3" Cat and Flowmaster 3" Cat-Back.

I had to run 19-20psi to get 300+hp out of my 55pph truck injectors on a 350cid... Need about 75pph out of them to keep the duty cycle at 85% or so...

Only problem with that is, I have the 305 not the 350. Will the same stuff work?
