Would a stage two chip help much?
I know that this should probably go under the PROM board but I wanted to know from you TBI experts! I have a LO3 firebird and am thinking about getting a chip, the stage two kind for "off road use only" ha. Anyway, have any of you put this chip on or a similar one? Did you notice a difference, any dyno runs? I guess I'm asking if it's worth it. I would be adding it to my car along with an open element, edelbrock tbi manifold and a 160* stat. Good idea? Thanks for the help guys!

I think if you can spend the money, a custom chip is well worth the trouble.
Most I've spoken to don't have a very high opinion of the generic "stage 2" chips regardless of manufacturer.
I have a custom chip from Fastchip, and am very happy with the performance.Don't honestly know how much better this is than the others, but Ed Wright guarantees nobody's GM chips are faster than his. There are several guys that post regularly on this site that can also burn you a custom chip, though I have no experience with them personally.
I'm sure others will be able to give you a more specific answer to your question, with real before & after numbers,et's etc.

I know a custom chip is a great improvement, but do I really need one with the mods I have? Besides what I listed, I have a 3" Dynomax exhaust, B&M Shift Kit, and a Cold air induction, along with the ultimate TBI mods on this site. Thanks again!

no .. you really dont need a custom chip until you start getting into cam /intake/head work.. but unless you can get one really cheap.. paid 40 for my jet stage 2... its not really worth what they would charge you for a new one. your better off using that money for something else right now.

excuse me but did somebody say off the shelf eprom...i hope NOT! Never, it's been said hmmm...too many times. No off the shelf eprom is going to help.
What you could do is hookup a scanner and see if you're running lean (BLM will be below 128 for normal driving, NOT under WOT because it defaults to 128). If that's the case, increase fuel pressure slightly. All better now :-D until you can afford more mods I wouldn't pay more than $10 for an off the shelf "chip" no matter what stage it is.
