regulator question

for you guys running higher fuel pressures (15-30+), what are you using for a fuel pressure regulator? i'm assuming that the stock unit, even if modded for adjustability, won't set these higher pressures?

Re: regulator question

I use a GM 454 TBI regulator. I use a different spring (stock one too weak, 454 one too strong) but I cannot remember where I got it from (top down solutions maybe?)

Years ago before my cam swap I was running the stock pump and roughly bumped the pressure 1 PSI or so (was learning the basics of tuning). You won't get much past 12psi with the stock pump. With an aftermarket pump you can run much higher pressures. It all boils down to what fuel injectors you use and the combo you have to accuratly dial in the fuel pressure. My car hasn't run in years (new project but should have motor running in the next few months) and honestly I am not sure what my last set-up entailed.

Re: regulator question

Yes, they are not varialble regulators so it will be steady psi.

As long as it doesnt dip down at wot your doing good.

Re: regulator question

I still have the stock pump......I dont think it would be the same at idle, as it would be at WOT..........Shifty, did you use 350 truck injectors?????????? I was told they would work better with the LT1 cam....So i got a set, please let me know what you think, as I respect your opinion....I think the thinking behind that is that they will not be working as hard as the stock 305 injectors...Makes sense to me, I think they can cycle, even if they dont really put out much more.....I am changing cam this week, and I rebuilt the 350 truck injectors to put in at the same time...Am going to have my chip redone to match..(I know, should do it myself) I will data log, and do that soon, but for now, I hope it is at least workable.....Thanks, Tom

Why would it be different, you dont have a fuel pressure regulator do you? Are you even talking about fuel pressure?

What do you mean I dont have a reg...All TBI's have regulators....At idle the motor is not using much gas, at WOT, the motor is using alot more gas, ergo your pressure will tend to dip, if your pump cant keep up....Why did you not think I was talking about fuel pressure????? Not sure why you are questioning me like that.......Tom
BTW, just made my reg adjustable when I did the TBI rebuild......

Re: regulator question

Oh im sorry, i meant to say VARIABLE fpr, the ones that have a vaccume line attached. my bad.

But no, if you have the right pump for your setup, it should stay the EXACT fuel pressure no matter what.
