what would you buy if you had 200$ to spend?
hows it going. i wanted to see what you guys think i should get for my next mod, i have all in the sig below, and i wanted to get something else but i cant decide. these are my 3 choices:
1) new waterpump (never painted mine when i rebuilt the engine, so it looks weird)
2) march underdrive pullies (do you guys know of any difference bettween the steel and the aluminum)
3)MSD 6a ignition box, to furthermore compliment my other MSD ignition parts.
so what would you guys get for 200$ im thinking im gonna go with the march pullies but im not sure, either that or the MSD box would be my second choice
Thanks

Unless you have 400+hp with 11:1 or higher compression...no reason to get MSD. The higher voltage coil and regapping plugs is plenty good for most small block setups.
I would go with the underdrive pulleys as well if I had money burning a hole in my pocket. If I didn't, I would save that cash in the bank and think about what I could do with an extra $200 saved in a few weeks. More money = better goodies

"2) march underdrive pullies (do you guys know of any difference bettween the steel and the aluminum)"
-Differences: looks. and (minor) weight.
With that system you've got, you could have some charging issues if you put on pulleys. I'd get the "Power&Amps" (?) set from March if you're gonna do that... you won't notice much of a difference, but it's an easy mod.
"1) new waterpump (never painted mine when i rebuilt the engine, so it looks weird)"
-You're thinking about replacing a good waterpump just b/c you don't like how it looks?? I wish I had your kinda spare change...

Personally, if I had a $200 windfall, I'd put it away towards a $600 - $1200 mod. Those $200 range mods are hardly worth the money (I should know, I've been through enough of them!)

wow, little testy are we? They're right though, save up for a big mod like new brakes. That would be worth it. Besides killer, if you get whatever you want, why don't you just put your money into this "Supercharged 383 Stroker" and have that running in the car rather than spending more money on the 305 which I assume you would eventually pull anyway???

Let me put it in simple terms: MSD ignition box = no power gain. If you can prove it, then do it, you'll be the first. Like I said before, normal dissy with high voltage cap is all you need for most street chevy's that run on 94 or less octane!

March Pulleys won't give u nothing more than 5hp. They look real good though under the hood but they only give u 5hp for 200 bucks ain't that cool. But every little bit counts. :shrugs:
Maybe I would keep it and just save ur money until something happens. Cause from ur list of mods, there ain't to much more to do and u don't need a MSD box but if u want one, go for it. It might help a little.

For ~$100 you should be able to find a used Holley 670 cfm TB. Figure $60 to get that manifold board to 2" and hidden expenses will run about $40, it might be worthwile.

what do you have in your "all new suspension" ?
if you don't already have them, for $200 you could get a poly tranny mount, poly torque arm bushing, rear control arm relocators, get someone to box in your control arms, and put on poly sway bar bushings and end link s at both ends.
that woudl give you a lot of handling gains and a few bucks left over.

If I was thinking of switching water pumps, I would go with an electric water pump to free up some horsepower to the wheels. You can get a Weiand from Jegs for 159 dollars plus their 7 dollar handling charge.

Get a good stewart waterpump for $170 and it'll use up like 4hp at most. It'll also flow MUCH more than the electrics.
I agree with the suspension work. $200 is good for getting the little stuff out of the way.

No offense but I'd take an aftermarket cam swap (from the OEM cam) over any water pump change, any day... OEM exhaust/intake with cam change worth WAY more TQ/HP than a water pump change...

you can use an electric water pump on the street if you want. most have a 1 year warranty just like the good al;uminum pumps do. when i called aero space components the tech guy said theres woudl run for 3-5 years under regular street use, and that was after i explain to him i wanted to drive the car a alot.
